Surah Hud — Verse 6

Word Meanings:

• Daabbah (دَابَّة): Every living creature that moves or crawls upon the earth, including animals, insects, and all forms of life.
• Mustaqarr (مُسْتَقَرّ): The place where a creature settles, resides, or is established during its lifetime, and also its final resting place after death.
• Mustawda' (مُسْتَوْدَع): The place where something is deposited or entrusted temporarily — here, referring to the womb, the loins, or any place where the creature was kept before its birth or during its early stages.
• Kitābun Mubīn (كِتَابٍ مُبِين): A clear, evident, and detailed record — the Preserved Tablet (al-Lawh al-Mahfūz).

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse is a profound declaration of Allah's absolute care and providence over all His creation. Allah informs us that there is not a single creature that moves upon the face of the earth — whether it walks, crawls, slithers, or flies — except that its provision (rizq) is guaranteed by Allah Himself. This is not because Allah is obligated to do so, but rather as a pure act of His grace, mercy, and generosity. He has taken it upon Himself, out of His infinite kindness, to ensure that every living being receives what it needs to survive and thrive.

Furthermore, Allah knows the mustaqarr of every creature — the place where it will live, settle, and complete its journey in this world, as well as the place where it will be buried after death. He also knows the mustawda' — the place where it was deposited before coming into existence, such as the loins of its father and the womb of its mother, and every stage of its development. Nothing about any creature is hidden from Him — not its beginning, not its middle, not its end.

And all of this — the creature itself, its provision, its dwelling place, its temporary abode, and its final destination — is recorded in a clear, detailed book with Allah, the Preserved Tablet, long before the creature ever comes into existence. This was all written and decreed with perfect knowledge and wisdom.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, let this verse fill your heart with tranquility and trust in your Lord. The same Allah who guarantees the provision of every ant in the darkest crevice, every bird in the highest sky, and every fish in the deepest ocean — He is the One who has also guaranteed your provision. Not a single creature goes hungry without His knowledge, and not a single soul is forgotten by His mercy.

So why do we worry? Why do we let anxiety over our sustenance consume our hearts? If Allah has taken responsibility for the provision of every crawling creature on earth, how could He ever neglect you — a human being whom He has honored, guided, and blessed with intellect and faith?

Place your trust in Allah, strive with sincerity, and know that your rizq is already written and guaranteed. Your duty is only to work and to rely upon Him. And remember: the same Lord who knows where you will rest and where you will be deposited is the Lord who hears your prayers and answers your calls. Turn to Him, and let your heart find peace in His promise.
