- "Khushūʿan": Humility, submissiveness, and tranquility of the heart before Allah’s greatness.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse paints a breathtaking picture of the true believers — those who, when they hear the Qur’an being recited, are so overwhelmed by its majesty and truth that they fall down on their faces in prostration, weeping. Their tears are not of sorrow or despair, but of profound reverence, love, and awe for their Lord. They recognize the weight of the words they hear, and their hearts melt in submission.
The repetition of their falling and weeping indicates that this is not a one-time occurrence, but a continuous state — every time they hear the Qur’an, they are moved anew. This is a sign of living faith: a heart that is soft, alert, and deeply connected to its Creator.
And then comes the beautiful promise: "And it increases them in humility." The more they listen, the more they grow in submission. The Qur’an does not merely touch their hearts — it transforms them, deepening their servitude to Allah and their awareness of His infinite power and mercy.
This verse is a powerful reminder for us all: the Qur’an is not a book to be read mechanically or hurriedly. It is a living message that should stir our hearts, bring tears to our eyes, and increase our humility before Allah. When we approach the Qur’an with sincerity and reflection, it has the power to soften the hardest of hearts and elevate the soul to new heights of devotion.
Let this be an inspiration for you, dear reader: open the Qur’an with a humble heart, listen to its verses with presence of mind, and let it transform you — for it is the speech of Allah, and no heart that truly engages with it remains unchanged. May Allah make us among those who weep out of love for Him and whose humility increases with every verse they hear.
