Tafsir (Explanation):
Have you not observed, O noble Messenger, and do you not reflect upon the magnificent power of Allah? He it is Who gently drives the clouds across the sky, steering them to wherever He wills. Then He brings their scattered fragments together, uniting them into a single mass. Then He piles them up, layer upon layer, until they become towering, dense formations. From within these accumulated clouds, you see the rain pouring forth, dripping through their openings and gaps, nourishing the earth and giving life to all that exists.
And from the sky, He sends down from clouds that resemble mountains in their immense size and grandeur—hailstones, frozen particles of water. By this hail, He strikes whom He wills among His servants, causing harm to their crops and properties as a test or a lesson, and He turns it away from whom He wills, protecting them and their livelihoods. All of this occurs according to His perfect wisdom and precise decree—nothing happens except by His will, and His mercy encompasses all.
The brilliance of the lightning within these clouds is so intense that it almost snatches away the eyesight of those who gaze upon it. The flash is blinding, a dazzling display of divine power that leaves the onlooker in awe.
This verse invites you to open your eyes and heart to the wonders of the natural world, for every drop of rain, every flash of lightning, and every hailstone is a sign of Allah's absolute sovereignty and meticulous design. The One who controls the clouds, the rain, and the lightning is the same One who controls your life, your provision, and your destiny. So turn to Him with trust and humility, for He alone is the All-Powerful, the All-Wise. Indeed, in these phenomena lies a profound reminder for those who reflect: the same Allah who sends down rain as a mercy can send hail as a trial, and He does so with perfect justice and wisdom. Let this inspire you to submit to His will, to be grateful for His blessings, and to seek His protection from harm. For He is the One who says to the sky "Be," and it is—and He is capable of all things.
