Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Mulk (مُلْكُ): Sovereignty, absolute dominion, and full authority over creation.
  • Al-Maseer (الْمَصِيرُ): The final return, the ultimate destination, and the place of reckoning.

Tafsir (Explanation):

To Allah alone belongs the absolute sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. He is the sole Owner, Controller, and Disposer of all affairs—nothing moves, exists, or changes except by His will and command. The heavens with their vast galaxies, the earth with its mountains and seas, and everything in between are all under His perfect authority and management. He creates as He wills, sustains whom He wills, and decrees all matters with perfect wisdom.

And to Allah alone is the final return. Every soul—whether believer or disbeliever, whether righteous or sinful—will journey back to its Lord on the Day of Judgment. There, all creation will stand before Him for reckoning and recompense. No one will escape this return, and no one will be left unaccounted for. The One who owns everything in this life is also the One to whom all will return in the next.

This verse instills in the believer a profound sense of humility and accountability. When we realize that we are not the true owners of anything—not our wealth, not our bodies, not even our own souls—we become more grateful for what we have and more careful in how we use it. And when we remember that our ultimate destination is Allah, we begin to prioritize what truly matters: pleasing Him, following His guidance, and preparing for the meeting with Him.

Dear reader, this is a beautiful reminder that life is not a random journey without purpose. You have a Lord who owns everything, and you have a destination that is certain. So let your heart find peace in submitting to the One who holds all power, and let your actions reflect the awareness that you will one day return to Him. The doors of repentance are open, and His mercy is vast—so hasten to Him before the appointed time arrives.

📜 Verse 40-44 — An-Nur

Or [they are] like darknesses within an unfathomable sea which is covered by waves, upon which are waves, over which are clouds - darknesses, some of them upon others. When one puts out his hand [therein], he can hardly see it. And he to whom Allah has not granted light - for him there is no light.
Do you not see that Allah is exalted by whomever is within the heavens and the earth and [by] the birds with wings spread [in flight]? Each [of them] has known his [means of] prayer and exalting [Him], and Allah is Knowing of what they do.
And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and to Allah is the destination.
Do you not see that Allah drives clouds? Then He brings them together, then He makes them into a mass, and you see the rain emerge from within it. And He sends down from the sky, mountains [of clouds] within which is hail, and He strikes with it whom He wills and averts it from whom He wills. The flash of its lightening almost takes away the eyesight.
Allah alternates the night and the day. Indeed in that is a lesson for those who have vision.
