Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Judgment, when Allah asks those who were worshipped besides Him—whether angels, prophets, or other beings—whether they led people astray, they will respond with complete submission and awe: “Glory be to You!” They declare Allah utterly free from any partner or equal. They affirm that it was never fitting or proper for them to take any protectors or allies besides Allah—how could they, when they themselves are His servants? They would never call people to worship them; rather, they always called to the worship of Allah alone.
Then they explain the real cause of people’s ruin: “But You granted them and their fathers enjoyment in the worldly life—wealth, health, and comfort—until they forgot the Remembrance of Allah.” This prolonged ease and luxury, given as a gradual test, made them neglectful. They abandoned the remembrance of their Lord, ignored His signs, and fell into associating partners with Him. As a result, they became a people utterly ruined—destroyed by their own heedlessness and stubbornness, deserving of eternal loss.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every soul. The false gods of this world—whether wealth, status, desires, or even revered beings—will disown their worshippers on the Day of Judgment. Nothing will intercede for you except your sincere deeds and your connection with Allah.
Do not let the blessings of life deceive you. When Allah gives you comfort, it is a test: will you remember Him in gratitude, or will you forget Him in arrogance? The greatest loss is to be so immersed in worldly pleasures that you neglect the very purpose of your existence—knowing and worshipping your Creator.
Take heed today, before the Day when every excuse fails and every false ally abandons you. Turn to Allah now, remember Him constantly, and make Him your only Protector and Guide. He is the One who grants true success and eternal happiness. Let your heart be alive with His remembrance, for the one who forgets Allah is truly the most ruined of all people—but the one who clings to Him is saved from every loss.
