Word Meanings:
- Yahshuruhum – The day when Allah gathers and assembles them together for judgment.
- Ma ya'budun – The objects of worship they took besides Allah, whether angels, prophets, jinn, or idols.
- Adlaltum – Did you lead them astray, meaning did you actively call them to worship you or command them to do so?
- Dallu al-sabil – They went astray from the right path on their own, without any command from the worshipped beings.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will gather all the polytheists and bring them together with the very beings they used to worship besides Him—whether those were angels, prophets like Jesus (peace be upon him), jinn, or even lifeless idols. Then, in a scene of ultimate justice and accountability, Allah will address those worshipped beings directly, and His question will serve as a powerful rebuke to the worshippers themselves. He will ask: "Did you lead My servants astray? Did you command them to worship you, or did they stray from the right path on their own accord?"
This question is not because Allah does not know the truth—He knows everything—but rather to establish the proof against the polytheists and to expose their false excuses. The worshipped beings will be utterly unable to claim any responsibility or authority. They will not have called anyone to worship them, nor did they have any power to guide or misguide. The truth will become crystal clear: the polytheists chose to worship them out of their own ignorance and deviation, and no one forced them into that error.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every human being. It reminds us that on the Day when all veils are lifted, every excuse will vanish, and each soul will face the reality of its own choices. No one will be able to blame another for their own misguidance. The idols, the saints, the prophets—none of them will intercede for those who associated partners with Allah, nor will they bear any responsibility for the sins of their worshippers.
Dear reader, this scene is a call to purify your heart and direct your worship exclusively to Allah alone. He is the only One who deserves your devotion, your love, your fear, and your hope. Do not let your heart incline toward anything else, for on that Day, every false object of worship will disown you, and only your sincere deeds and your pure faith in Allah will speak for you. Let this verse be a reminder that your relationship with your Creator is personal and direct—no intermediaries, no partners, no excuses. Turn to Him now, before that Day comes, and make your worship purely for His sake.
