Translation — Tafsir

- Kadhdhabūkum (كَذَّبُوكُمْ): They denied you, i.e., they declared your claims about them to be false.
- Bimā taqūlūn (بِمَا تَقُولُونَ): Because of what you say, i.e., your assertion that they were gods or deities worthy of worship.
- Ṣarfan (صَرْفًا): Turning away, repelling, or averting — meaning the ability to ward off punishment or harm.
- Naṣran (نَصْرًا): Help or support — meaning assistance against the punishment.
- Yażlim (يَظْلِم): To commit injustice — here referring to the gravest injustice, which is shirk (associating partners with Allah).
- Nudhiqhu (نُذِقْهُ): We will make him taste — an expression meaning to inflict or cause to experience severe punishment.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Judgment, Allah will address those who worshipped false deities alongside Him — whether angels, prophets, saints, or idols — and He will say to them: "These beings you worshipped have now denied your claims about them. They declare that they never commanded you to worship them, and they disown you completely. So now, on this Day, you possess no power to avert the punishment that has come upon you, nor can you find any helper to rescue you from it. You are utterly helpless, just as those you worshipped are helpless."
Then comes a stern warning that applies to all people, believers and disbelievers alike: "And whoever among you commits injustice — meaning the injustice of shirk, associating partners with Allah and persisting in that until death — We will make him taste a tremendous punishment." This is the punishment of Hellfire, which is severe beyond imagination, and from which there is no escape.
This verse carries a profound lesson: the false gods that people rely upon in this world will abandon them at the very moment they need them most. They cannot benefit their worshippers, nor can they defend themselves. Only Allah — the One True God — has the power to benefit, harm, protect, and grant victory. Therefore, the wise person is the one who directs all worship to Allah alone, who is the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining, and who never fails those who sincerely turn to Him.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, reflect deeply on this scene from the Day of Judgment. Imagine standing before your Lord, and the very beings you trusted and called upon in times of hardship — they deny you and disown you. What a devastating loss that would be! But Allah, in His infinite mercy, has sent this warning to us now, in this life, so that we may correct our path before it is too late. He calls us to worship Him alone — the One who created us, sustains us, and answers our prayers. He is the Most Merciful, the Most Forgiving, and He opens His doors to all who repent sincerely. Do not wait until the Day when no help can reach you. Turn to Allah now, with a sincere heart, and you will find Him near, ready to forgive and to guide you to eternal success in this life and the Hereafter.
