📖 English Meaning
The People of the Scripture ask you to bring down to them a book from the heaven. But they had asked of Moses [even] greater than that and said, "Show us Allah outright," so the thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf [for worship] after clear evidences had come to them, and We pardoned that. And We gave Moses a clear authority.

  • Tunazzila (تُنَزِّلَ): To send down, to reveal.
  • Jahratan (جَهْرَةً): Openly, visibly, with their own eyes.
  • As-Sa'iqah (الصَّاعِقَةُ): A thunderbolt, a devastating blast of fire from the sky.
  • Bithulmihim (بِظُلْمِهِمْ): Because of their wrongdoing and transgression.
  • Al-'Ijl (الْعِجْلَ): The calf, which they made as an idol to worship.
  • Al-Bayyinat (الْبَيِّنَاتُ): Clear proofs, evident miracles.
  • Sultan-an Mubinan (سُلْطَانًا مُّبِينًا): A clear, manifest authority or decisive proof.

The Interpretation:

In this noble verse, Allah addresses His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with a message of comfort and reassurance, while simultaneously exposing the stubbornness and arrogance of the People of the Book. The Jews of Madinah came to you, O Messenger, demanding a miracle—they asked that you bring down a complete book from the sky all at once, just as the Torah was revealed to Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him). They made this demand not out of sincere faith, but out of mockery and obstinacy, seeking to test you rather than to believe.

Allah then reminds you not to be amazed by their insolence, for their forefathers were far worse. They asked Musa for something even greater and more audacious: they said, "Show us Allah openly!" They demanded to see their Lord with their own physical eyes—a request that no human being can bear and that no prophet could fulfill on their behalf. As a result of this transgression, a thunderbolt from the sky struck them down, and they perished instantly. This was the just punishment for their injustice and their crossing of all boundaries.

Yet, even after Allah revived them by His mercy and they witnessed the magnificent miracles of Musa—the staff turning into a serpent, the parting of the sea, the manna and quails descending from heaven—they still fell into the worst form of disbelief. They took a calf made of gold and worshipped it as their god, after all those clear signs had come to them. And despite this grave sin, Allah's mercy prevailed: He forgave them when they repented, and He did not annihilate them completely. He also granted Musa a clear and decisive authority—the Torah and the miracles—as an undeniable proof of his prophethood.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this verse and let it touch your heart. See how Allah, in His infinite patience, dealt with a people who committed the most heinous sins—demanding to see Him, worshipping a calf, and rejecting clear signs—yet He still opened the door of repentance for them. If such was His mercy toward them, how much greater is His mercy toward you and me, the followers of the final Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)?

The lesson here is profound: do not let your heart become hard like theirs. When you hear the call of truth, respond with humility and submission. Do not demand extraordinary signs when the greatest sign of all—the Qur'an—has already been placed in your hands. It is a living miracle, preserved for over fourteen centuries, challenging all of humanity to produce anything like it, and failing to do so.

Let this verse also remind you of the importance of gratitude. The Jews were given miracles beyond imagination, yet they turned away. We have been given the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the guidance of the Prophet (peace be upon him)—will we also turn away? Or will we be among those who say, "We hear and we obey"?

Allah's mercy is vast, and His door of forgiveness is always open. No matter how far you have strayed, come back to Him. He forgives all sins for those who sincerely repent. Do not let your past define you—let your present and future be defined by your love for Allah and His Messenger. And know that the greatest honor is to be a Muslim, guided by the final revelation, following the best of creation, and hoping for the eternal bliss of Paradise.

📜 Verse 151-155 — An-Nisa

Those are the disbelievers, truly. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.
But they who believe in Allah and His messengers and do not discriminate between any of them - to those He is going to give their rewards. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
And We raised over them the mount for [refusal of] their covenant; and We said to them, "Enter the gate bowing humbly", and We said to them, "Do not transgress on the sabbath", and We took from them a solemn covenant.
And [We cursed them] for their breaking of the covenant and their disbelief in the signs of Allah and their killing of the prophets without right and their saying, "Our hearts are wrapped". Rather, Allah has sealed them because of their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few.
