Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Meanings:
- Al-Hudā (الْهُدَىٰ): The clear guidance and true path that leads to righteousness and salvation.
- Dīn al-Ḥaqq (دِينِ الْحَقِّ): The religion of truth, which is Islam — the only faith that aligns with the natural disposition of humanity and the will of Allah.
- Li-yuẓhirahu (لِيُظْهِرَهُ): To make it prevail, elevate it, and establish its supremacy over all other systems of belief.
- Shahīdan (شَهِيدًا): A Witness — One who attests to the truth of this promise with perfect knowledge and absolute justice.
The Interpretation:
In this noble verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) declares that He alone is the One who sent His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with two precious gifts: Al-Hudā — the illuminating guidance that dispels the darkness of ignorance, and Dīn al-Ḥaqq — the religion of truth, Islam, which is the complete and final code of life for all of humanity.
The divine purpose behind this sending is profound: to make this religion prevail over all other religions and ways of life. This is not merely a historical event but a living promise — Allah has decreed that the truth of Islam will rise above falsehood, that its light will never be extinguished, and that its message will reach every corner of the earth. This victory is not limited to military conquest; it encompasses the triumph of truth over falsehood in every arena — in hearts, in minds, in societies, and in civilizations. The religion of Islam abrogates what was correct in previous scriptures and exposes the corruption of what was altered, leaving humanity with a pure, untainted path to its Creator.
Then comes the comforting assurance: "And sufficient is Allah as a Witness." This means that Allah Himself bears witness to this promise — He testifies that He will support His Messenger, protect His religion, and grant it victory. When the Creator of the heavens and the earth makes a promise, there is no doubt in its fulfillment. No power on earth can stand against what Allah has willed.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, ponder the greatness of this verse! The One who created you, who sustains you, who knows your every thought — He has personally guaranteed the victory of this religion. So why do we fear? Why do we hesitate? Why do we doubt when Allah has already decided?
This verse fills the believer's heart with unshakable confidence. It teaches us that we are on the side of the ultimate Victor, and that no matter how dark the circumstances may appear, the dawn of Allah's promise is near. It calls us to be proud of our faith, to hold firmly to its teachings, and to strive in its cause with the certainty that our efforts are never in vain.
Let this verse be a source of strength in your daily life. When you face challenges, when you see the forces of falsehood gathering, remember: Allah has already witnessed and decreed the triumph of His religion. Your duty is simply to walk the path of guidance, to embody the truth of Islam, and to trust in the promise of the One who never breaks His word. Indeed, sufficient is Allah as a Witness — and what a perfect Witness He is!
