Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- مَبْلَغُهُم (mablaghuhum): The utmost extent or limit of their knowledge.
- ضَلَّ (dalla): To deviate, stray, or go astray.
- سَبِيلِهِ (sabilihi): His path — meaning the path of Allah, the path of guidance and truth.
- اهْتَدَىٰ (ihtada): To be guided, to find and follow the right path.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse concludes the description of those who turn away from the Qur'an and desire only the fleeting pleasures of this worldly life. Their entire pursuit — their obsession with worldly gains, their rejection of divine revelation, and their shallow speculations about unseen matters — represents the absolute limit of their knowledge. They have reached a dead end in their understanding, unable to see beyond the material realm. Their "knowledge" is confined to what their limited minds can grasp, and they have no share in true, beneficial knowledge that leads to faith and righteousness.
The verse then delivers a profound reassurance and a stern warning: Allah, your Lord, is fully aware of who has strayed from His path and who has been guided to it. Nothing is hidden from Him — not the intentions of hearts, not the deeds of people, not the paths they choose. He knows the one who deviates out of arrogance or ignorance, and He knows the one who sincerely seeks the truth and follows the guidance of His messengers. And He will deal with each according to their choice.
This is a powerful reminder that human judgment is limited and often flawed, but Allah's knowledge is absolute and perfect. No one can deceive Him, and no one's good deeds are ever lost. The one who follows the path of guidance is never forgotten, and the one who turns away is never overlooked.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, pause and reflect: What is the limit of your knowledge? Is it confined to the temporary pleasures of this world, or does it extend to the eternal truths of the Hereafter? The Qur'an invites you to rise above the narrow horizon of worldly desires and to seek knowledge that truly benefits — knowledge of your Creator, of His commands, and of the path that leads to His pleasure.
Allah knows you completely — your struggles, your intentions, and your choices. He sees the one who strives to follow His guidance, and He will never let that effort go to waste. So do not be deceived by those who mock the truth or by the temporary success of those who turn away. Their knowledge is limited, but Allah's knowledge encompasses everything. Choose the path of guidance today, and trust that your Lord — who knows all — will reward you in ways you cannot imagine. The door of repentance is open, and the mercy of Allah is vast. Do not let the fleeting world rob you of eternal success.
