Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Hoor (حُورٌ): The plural of *hawraa'* (حوراء), referring to women of Paradise with intensely white eyes and beautiful black pupils, characterized by extreme whiteness and purity.
  • 'Een (عِينٌ): The plural of *'aynaa'* (عيناء), meaning wide-eyed — women with large, strikingly beautiful eyes.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah describes another delight awaiting the righteous in Paradise: they will have *Hoorun 'Een* — pure, beautiful companions with wide, captivating eyes. These are not ordinary women; they are created in a state of perfect beauty and purity, untouched by any flaw. Their eyes are described as wide and luminous, a feature that in Arabic culture symbolizes the pinnacle of feminine beauty and charm. They are likened elsewhere in the Qur'an to hidden pearls, preserved and radiant, free from any blemish. This is a reward for the believers who, in their worldly life, strove in righteousness — performing good deeds sincerely for Allah's sake, restraining their desires, and following His guidance. The mention of these companions is not merely about physical pleasure; it reflects the profound generosity of Allah, who grants His servants not only what they desire but far beyond what they could ever imagine. It is a glimpse of the joy and honor that awaits those who dedicate their lives to pleasing their Lord.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, imagine a reward so magnificent that its description alone stirs the heart — a life of eternal bliss where every longing is fulfilled, and every moment is filled with peace and joy. This is the promise of Allah to those who believe and do good. The Qur'an invites you to ponder: is this fleeting world, with its temporary pleasures and inevitable hardships, worth more than an everlasting Paradise? The door of repentance and good deeds is always open. Turn to Allah today, and let this promise motivate you to strive for what truly lasts. The beauty of Paradise is not just for the past nations — it is for anyone who sincerely seeks it, including you, right now.

📜 Verse 20-24 — Al-Waqi'ah

20وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
And fruit of what they select
21وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire.
22وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes,
23كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ
The likenesses of pearls well-protected,
24جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
As reward for what they used to do.
