Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Ka'amthal (كَأَمْثَالِ): Like the likeness of, or resembling.
  • Al-Lu'lu' (اللُّؤْلُؤِ): Pearl — the precious gem formed within oyster shells.
  • Al-Maknun (الْمَكْنُونِ): The concealed, protected, or well-guarded — referring to a pearl that remains hidden inside its shell, untouched by hands or exposure.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse paints a breathtaking image of the companions of Paradise, describing the pure, radiant maidens (Hoor al-'Ayn) who will be granted to the believers. They are likened to pearls that are *maknun* — meaning pearls still nestled safely within their oyster shells, never touched by any hand, never exposed to the elements, and thus preserved in their absolute perfection, clarity, and brilliance.

Just as a pearl hidden in its shell remains pristine, luminous, and free from any blemish, so too are these companions of Paradise — flawless in beauty, pure in essence, and untouched by any prior being. Their radiance is not diminished by time or wear; their charm is eternal and ever-fresh. The comparison evokes not only physical beauty but also spiritual purity and dignity, reflecting the reward for those who strove in faith and righteousness during their worldly life.

This imagery serves as a gentle reminder that the delights of Paradise are beyond anything the human eye has seen or the heart has imagined. The Creator, in His infinite mercy, has prepared for His righteous servants what no soul can fully comprehend — a reward that mirrors the purity of their intentions and deeds.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, when you read this verse, let your heart yearn for what Allah has prepared for His beloved servants. The pearl, hidden and protected, is a symbol of the treasures that await you — treasures that no hardship, no sin, and no sorrow can tarnish. Paradise is not a distant dream; it is a reality promised by the Most Truthful, and every step of obedience you take in this world is a step closer to those untouched pearls.

So, strive with sincerity, guard your faith as the pearl is guarded in its shell, and know that your Lord’s generosity knows no bounds. He does not forget a single good deed, nor does He overlook a single sincere intention. Let this beautiful promise fill your heart with hope, and let it motivate you to live a life of gratitude, patience, and devotion — for the reward is far greater than anything this fleeting world can offer.
