Tafsir (Explanation):
These hypocrites—whose hearts are diseased with envy and malice—are the very ones who plotted to cut off financial support from the poor believers who had gathered around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They said to the people of Madinah: "Do not spend your wealth on those who are with the Messenger of Allah, so that they may leave him and scatter away from him." They thought that by starving them financially, they could weaken the Prophet's community and drive the needy emigrants away.
But Allah refutes their wicked scheme with a profound truth: "And to Allah belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth." All provision, all sustenance, all wealth—every grain of food and every drop of rain—is in His hands alone. He gives to whom He wills and withholds from whom He wills. No plot of the hypocrites can ever change what Allah has decreed. If Allah wills to sustain His righteous servants, no force on earth can prevent it. And if He wills to withhold, no wealth of the hypocrites can benefit anyone.
Yet the hypocrites do not comprehend this. Their limited, worldly minds cannot grasp that Allah’s power is absolute and that His provision is not dependent on human charity. They fail to understand that when Allah desires a thing, He merely says "Be," and it is. Their schemes are futile, their plans are doomed, and their malice only exposes their own ignorance.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear believer, let this verse be a source of immense comfort and strength. When the enemies of truth try to weaken the believers by cutting off resources, remember that Allah is the true Provider. The wealth of the entire universe belongs to Him alone. No human can starve a believer whom Allah wishes to sustain, and no human can enrich one whom Allah wishes to test with poverty.
So place your trust in Allah, not in the hands of people. Spend in His cause with sincerity, and know that your provision is already written. The hypocrites of every era may scheme, but Allah's promise stands firm: "And whoever relies upon Allah—then He is sufficient for him." (65:3) Let your heart be at peace, for the treasures of the heavens and the earth are in the hands of the Most Merciful, and He never abandons His sincere servants.
