- "Wabāl" (وبال): The severe and harmful consequence of a matter; the heavy, evil outcome of one's actions.
- "Amrihā" (أمرها): Its affair or its situation—referring to the deeds and conduct of that town or community.
- "Āqibah" (عاقبة): The final outcome or end result.
- "Khusr" (خُسْر): Total loss, ruin, and perdition—a loss with no gain whatsoever.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the description of those towns and communities that turned away from the command of Allah and His messengers, persisting in their transgression and disbelief. After warning them and giving them ample opportunity to repent, Allah brought His punishment upon them. The verse says: "So they tasted the evil consequence of their affair, and the end of their affair was total loss."
They tasted—meaning they experienced firsthand—the bitter and heavy punishment that was the direct result of their own deeds. Their arrogance, stubbornness, and rejection of the truth led them to a dreadful end in this world, where they faced destruction, humiliation, and ruin. And beyond that, their ultimate fate in the Hereafter is an even greater loss—an everlasting loss in which they will have no hope of recovery or redemption.
This is a profound lesson for all of humanity: every action has a consequence, and those who defy their Creator and persist in wrongdoing will inevitably face the fruits of their labor. The loss they suffer is not merely material or temporary—it is a comprehensive loss that encompasses both this life and the next, leaving them with nothing but regret and despair.
A Da'wah Reflection:
How beautiful and merciful is Allah that He does not hasten punishment upon His servants, but instead gives them time, sends them reminders, and opens the doors of repentance! Yet how severe is His justice when the truth is persistently rejected and His signs are mocked. This verse calls upon every soul to pause and reflect: where is one heading with their choices? The path of obedience leads to peace and success, while the path of defiance leads to loss and ruin. Let this be a moment of awakening—a call to return to Allah before the consequences become unavoidable. For Allah's door of repentance remains open, and His mercy embraces all who turn to Him sincerely. Do not wait until you taste the evil outcome of your affairs; rather, hasten to the sweetness of faith and the tranquility of submission to your Lord.
