Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, the jinn continue their testimony, confessing their former practice before the advent of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They say: "We used to sit in various positions in the heavens, seeking to eavesdrop on the conversations of the angels and snatch fragments of unseen knowledge. We would then pass what we heard to the soothsayers and fortune-tellers on earth, who would mix it with lies and deceive people."
But now, everything has changed. The heavens have been placed under a strict, divine guard. The verse declares: "Whoever attempts to listen now will find a blazing meteor prepared and lying in wait for him—a fiery projectile that will pursue him and burn him instantly." This was a new, unprecedented protection of the heavenly realm, signaling the arrival of a momentous event: the revelation of the Qur’an to the final Messenger.
This verse carries profound lessons for humanity. It decisively refutes the claims of sorcerers, astrologers, and all those who pretend to know the unseen (al-ghayb). No created being—whether human or jinn—has access to the knowledge of the unseen except what Allah chooses to reveal to His chosen messengers. The heavens are sealed, and any attempt to breach that divine boundary is met with immediate destruction. So let every sincere seeker of truth turn directly to Allah, the All-Knowing, and to His revealed Book, rather than to the fabrications of charlatans. The Qur’an is the true and untainted source of guidance, and in it lies the light that dispels every darkness of ignorance and superstition. Praise be to Allah, who has preserved His revelation and protected it from all distortion, so that humanity may walk the straight path with certainty and peace.
