Tafsir (Interpretation):
In this verse, the jinn continue narrating their profound experience after hearing the Qur'an. They confess their utter ignorance regarding the divine will and purpose behind the sudden, intense heavenly surveillance they encountered — the guarding of the skies with blazing meteors that prevented them from eavesdropping as they once did. They say: "We truly do not know whether this extraordinary event signifies that evil is intended for the inhabitants of the earth, or whether their Lord intends for them goodness and right guidance."
This statement reflects the humility and honesty of the jinn who, upon witnessing the unprecedented cosmic changes, realized their limited knowledge compared to the infinite wisdom of Allah. They understood that the revelation of the Qur'an and the protection of the heavens were not random occurrences but carried profound meaning for all of creation — yet they could not determine whether it would bring calamity or blessing to humanity.
The verse beautifully illustrates the transition of these jinn from a state of ignorance and curiosity to a state of contemplation and submission. They recognized that all affairs — whether apparent good or apparent evil — are under the complete control of their Lord, and that His decisions are always wrapped in wisdom beyond human and jinn comprehension.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse teaches us a powerful lesson in humility and trust in Allah. Just as the jinn admitted their inability to know what Allah intends, we too must acknowledge that our knowledge is limited while His wisdom is boundless. When trials befall us, we may not understand their purpose — but we can be certain that Allah only intends good for His believing servants, even if the path appears difficult. When blessings come, we should receive them with gratitude, knowing they are from His mercy. This verse invites us to surrender our anxieties about the unknown to Allah, who knows what is best for us in every moment. The jinn, upon hearing the Qur'an, immediately submitted to its truth — how much more should we, who have been given the complete guidance, embrace it with certainty and peace? Let this verse remind you that whatever Allah ordains for you — whether ease or hardship — it is always for your ultimate benefit, and His mercy encompasses all that He decrees.
