Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Qara'nāhu" (We have recited it): This refers to the recitation of the Qur'an by the angel Jibrīl (Gabriel) upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
  • "Fa-ttabi' Qur'ānahu" (then follow its recitation): This means to listen attentively and then recite it as it was recited to you.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This noble verse addresses the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during the moment of revelation, teaching him and his Ummah (community) the proper etiquette of receiving the Qur'an. When the angel Jibrīl was conveying the words of Allah, the Prophet would hasten to move his tongue and lips to memorize the words immediately, fearing that he might forget them. Allah, in His infinite mercy and wisdom, reassured him: "Do not hasten with the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you."

In this verse, Allah commands: "So when We have recited it (through Our messenger Jibrīl), then follow its recitation." This means: listen attentively and in complete silence to the recitation of Jibrīl, and then recite it exactly as it was revealed to you. The command establishes a beautiful principle — that the reception of divine revelation requires presence of heart, attentive listening, and complete submission to the words of Allah.

This verse also carries a profound lesson for every believer: when the Qur'an is recited, we must give it our full attention, free from distractions, allowing its words to penetrate our hearts. The Qur'an is not merely a text to be read hastily; it is a divine communication that demands reverence, focus, and contemplation. By following this guidance, we open ourselves to the transformative power of Allah's words, which illuminate our path, purify our souls, and draw us closer to our Creator.

Da'wah Reflection:

Beloved reader, reflect on the immense honor Allah has bestowed upon us — He has preserved this Qur'an in our hearts and tongues, making it accessible to all who seek guidance. When you open the Book of Allah, remember that you are engaging with the very words of your Lord. Let your heart be present, your mind be attentive, and your soul be receptive. The Qur'an is a living miracle, a healing for what is in the breasts, and a light that never dims. Embrace it with love and devotion, and you will find in it a companion that never tires, a guide that never misleads, and a treasure that never diminishes. Indeed, in following the recitation of the Qur'an lies the key to success in this life and the next.
