Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- جَمْعَهُ (Jam'ahu): Gathering it, i.e., collecting the Qur'an in the Prophet's chest (heart/memory).
- وَقُرْآنَهُ (Wa Qur'anahu): And its recitation, i.e., enabling the recitation of it upon the tongue.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse comes as a direct and comforting reassurance from Allah to His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during the moments of receiving divine revelation. When the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) would bring down the verses of the Qur'an, the Prophet would hasten to move his tongue and lips, eager to memorize the words immediately for fear that they might slip away from him.
Allah, in His infinite mercy and wisdom, tells him: "Do not rush, O Prophet. Indeed, upon Us is its collection and its recitation." This means that the responsibility of preserving the Qur'an in the Prophet's heart and enabling him to recite it fluently rests entirely with Allah Himself. It is not a burden upon the Prophet to strive and struggle in memorizing it on the spot. Allah guarantees that He will gather the Qur'an securely in the Prophet's chest, so that not a single letter will be lost, and He will make its recitation flow easily upon his tongue whenever he wishes to recite it.
This verse is a profound lesson in trust and reliance upon Allah. It teaches us that when Allah undertakes a matter, He fulfills it perfectly. The preservation of the Qur'an was not left to human effort alone—it was divinely guaranteed. This is why the Qur'an remains unchanged and unaltered to this very day, as a living miracle that Allah Himself has promised to protect.
For us as believers, this verse carries a beautiful message: Allah does not burden us beyond what we can handle, and He takes care of the affairs of those who sincerely dedicate themselves to His cause. Just as He guaranteed the preservation of His Book for the Prophet, He also guarantees the success and protection of every believer who strives in His path. When we feel overwhelmed by the task of learning, memorizing, or implementing the Qur'an in our lives, we should remember that Allah is the One who makes it easy. Our part is to make the effort, and His part is to grant success, clarity, and ease.
This verse also highlights the immense honor of the Qur'an—it is not an ordinary book, but a divine revelation whose collection, preservation, and recitation are matters directly managed by Allah Himself. How fortunate are we to have access to this Book, and how grateful we should be for the ease with which we can read and recite it today, a blessing that was purchased with the Prophet's dedication and sealed with Allah's divine promise.
