Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- لِيَمِيزَ (liyameeza): to separate, distinguish, and make clear the difference between two things.
- الْخَبِيثَ (al-khabeeth): the evil, impure, and corrupt — referring here to the disbelievers and their ill-gotten wealth spent to block the path of Allah.
- الطَّيِّبَ (at-tayyib): the good, pure, and wholesome — referring to the believers and their sincere deeds.
- فَيَرْكُمَهُ (fayarkumahu): to pile up, stack, and heap one thing upon another until it becomes a dense mass (like thick, layered clouds).
- الْخَاسِرُونَ (al-khasirun): the truly lost ones — those who have ruined themselves and their families on the Day of Judgment.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the description of those disbelievers who spent their wealth to turn people away from the path of Allah. Their spending was not for any good cause, but purely to block others from faith and to spread corruption. Allah reveals that all of this effort has a deeper divine purpose: to separate the impure from the pure.
On the Day of Judgment, the true nature of everything will be exposed. The evil — whether it be the disbelievers themselves, their corrupt intentions, or the wealth they spent in opposition to the truth — will be clearly distinguished from the good — the believers, their sincere deeds, and their pure earnings. This separation is not random; it is the perfect justice of Allah, who knows what is hidden in every heart and what every soul has earned.
Then comes a striking image: Allah will take all that is evil and impure — the people, the deeds, the wealth — and pile it up, layer upon layer, until it becomes a massive, dense heap. Nothing of it will be scattered or lost; every bit of corruption will be gathered together. Then, this entire heap will be cast into the fire of Hell. There, it will remain forever, consumed by the very punishment it earned.
And who are these people? They are the ones who thought they were being clever by spending their wealth against the truth, but in reality, they lost everything. They lost their souls, their families, and their eternal happiness — all for a fleeting moment of worldly gain. They are the true losers, for their loss is absolute and everlasting.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this profound truth: Allah does not look at the size of your wealth or the scale of your projects — He looks at the purity of your intention and the sincerity of your heart. A small deed done with pure faith is far greater in His sight than a mountain of wealth spent for selfish or corrupt purposes. The disbelievers of Makkah spent fortunes to fight the truth, yet all that spending became fuel for their own destruction. Let this be a lesson for us all: purify your wealth, your deeds, and your intentions, for only what is pure and sincere will survive the test of the Hereafter. And know that Allah’s justice is perfect — He will never mix the pure with the impure, nor will He let any evil escape its due recompense. So strive to be among the pure, and you will never be among the losers.
