Surah At-Takwir — Verse 25

Word Meanings:

• Shaytan (شَيْطَانٍ): A rebellious and arrogant being from among the jinn, who defies the command of Allah and seeks to mislead humanity.
• Rajeem (رَّجِيمٍ): Literally meaning "pelted" or "stoned," it refers to one who is driven away from Allah's mercy and pelted with meteors when attempting to eavesdrop on the heavens.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse comes as a powerful refutation of the false claims made by the disbelievers of Makkah, who alleged that the Qur'an was the work of a possessed poet or a madman influenced by evil spirits. Allah, the Most High, declares with absolute clarity that this Qur'an is not the speech of a devil who has been cast out of Allah's mercy and pelted with flaming stars when he tries to steal a listen from the heavenly realm.

Rather, this Qur'an is the pure, unadulterated word of Allah Himself — revealed to His noble Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the trustworthy angel Jibreel (Gabriel). It is a book of guidance, mercy, and light, far too sublime and perfect in its eloquence, wisdom, and truth to originate from any accursed devil. The devils are incapable of producing such speech, for their nature is corruption and falsehood, while the Qur'an is truth from the Lord of all worlds.

The verse also serves to reassure the believers and to strip away any doubt that the enemies of Islam might try to plant in their hearts. The Qur'an is a divine revelation, protected and preserved, and its message is one of salvation, justice, and the worship of the One True God.
