Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- فَوَسَطْنَ (fawasatna): They penetrated into the middle, i.e., they entered the very heart of something.
- بِهِ (bihi): By means of it — referring to the horses and their riders mentioned in the preceding verses.
- جَمْعًا (jam'an): A gathering or multitude — specifically, a massed body of the enemy.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the vivid description of the war horses that charge into battle at dawn, striking sparks with their hooves, and raiding at morning time. Here, Allah describes how these horses, with their brave riders, plunge directly into the very center of the enemy's ranks — not merely skirmishing at the edges, but penetrating deep into the heart of the gathered forces. The image is one of fearless courage and decisive action: the horses do not hesitate or circle around; they cut straight through the enemy's formation, scattering their lines and breaking their unity.
This powerful imagery serves a profound purpose. Just as these horses fearlessly charge into the midst of the enemy, so too must the believer plunge wholeheartedly into the challenges of life with unwavering faith. The verse reminds us that true strength lies not in avoiding difficulties but in facing them head-on, trusting in Allah's support. When you commit yourself fully to the path of righteousness, Allah grants you the courage to penetrate through the obstacles that stand in your way — whether they are internal struggles against your own desires or external challenges in society.
The scene also reflects the reality of jihad in the cause of Allah — not only the physical struggle in battle but also the greater jihad against one's own soul, against ignorance, and against injustice. The believer who stands firm in the face of opposition, who enters the "heart of the matter" rather than staying on the periphery, embodies the spirit of this verse. Such a person does not retreat when confronted with a gathering of difficulties but advances with certainty, knowing that Allah is with those who strive sincerely for His sake.
This verse ultimately calls us to reflect: Are we among those who merely observe from a distance, or are we among those who courageously enter the midst of life's battles with faith as our guide? The horses of the warriors did not fear the size of the enemy's gathering — they plunged in, trusting their training and their purpose. Likewise, the believer should not fear the magnitude of life's trials, for with Allah's help, even the most formidable gathering of obstacles can be overcome. This is the beautiful lesson of this verse: courage, trust in Allah, and decisive action in the face of adversity are the hallmarks of true faith.
