Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Nār (نَارُ): Fire
- Allāh (اللَّهِ): Of Allah (belonging to Him alone)
- Al-Mūqadah (الْمُوقَدَةُ): Kindled, ignited, or fiercely blazing — a fire that has been intensely lit and stoked to its fullest heat.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse describes the terrible fate that awaits those who mock and belittle others through words and actions — those who gather wealth and count it endlessly, thinking their riches will make them immortal. After warning them of the crushing punishment (Al-Hutamah), Allah magnifies the horror of that punishment by identifying it as "the fire of Allah, kindled" — a fire that belongs to Allah alone, prepared specifically for those who reject His signs and harm His creation. It is not an ordinary fire; it is a fire whose intensity is beyond human imagination. It has been ignited by Allah’s own command and power, and it blazes with a heat that penetrates everything. This fire is so fierce that it does not merely scorch the skin — it reaches through the bodies and burns straight into the hearts, causing a torment that combines both physical and spiritual agony. The word "kindled" emphasizes that this fire is continuously fueled and never dies down; it is ever-burning, ever-intensifying, with no respite for its inhabitants.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on the greatness of this warning. Allah, the Most Merciful, does not mention this fire to frighten us without purpose — He mentions it out of His immense love for us, so that we may turn back to Him before it is too late. He has given us countless chances in this life to repent, to purify our hearts from arrogance, mockery, and greed. The fire of Allah is a reality, but so is His boundless mercy. The very same Lord who kindled that fire for the wrongdoers has opened the doors of Paradise wide for those who believe, do good deeds, and treat others with kindness and respect. Let this verse be a wake-up call: do not let your wealth, status, or pride blind you from what truly matters. Humble yourself before Allah, guard your tongue from hurting others, and spend your blessings in ways that please Him. For on that Day, neither wealth nor children will avail anyone — only a pure heart brought to Allah will find safety and eternal bliss. Choose now, before the fire is kindled for you, to walk the path of light and mercy.
