Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Da'watul-Haqq (دعوة الحق): The call of truth, meaning the pure worship and supplication directed to Allah alone — the declaration of His Oneness (La ilaha illa Allah).
- Yastajeeboon (يستجيبون): They respond or answer.
- Kabasit kaffayhi (كباسط كفيه): Like one stretching out his open palms.
- Fahu (فاه): His mouth.
- Dalal (ضلال): Utter loss, futility, and going astray from the right path.
Explanation of the Verse:
To Allah alone belongs the true call of worship and supplication — the call of Tawheed, the declaration that none has the right to be worshipped except Him. He is the Only One who deserves to be invoked, sought for help, and worshipped in all sincerity. No partner, rival, or intermediary shares this right with Him.
As for those false deities and idols that the disbelievers call upon instead of Allah, they are utterly incapable of responding to any request or fulfilling any need. The situation of those who call upon them is like a thirsty man standing at a distance, stretching his open hand toward water that he sees, hoping it will reach his mouth so he can drink — but the water never reaches his lips, no matter how much he stretches and strains. In the same way, the idols never answer their callers, never grant their requests, and never bring them any benefit or ward off any harm.
The supplication of the disbelievers to their false gods is nothing but sheer loss and complete deviation from the truth. It is wasted effort, built upon ignorance and misguidance, because these idols possess no power to benefit or harm anyone. Their worship is built on delusion, and their prayers vanish into the void.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, contemplate the beauty of this verse and how it awakens the heart to the reality of true worship. Allah, the Most Merciful, does not leave His servants in confusion — He clearly shows them the difference between the truth and falsehood. He invites you to call upon Him, the One who hears every whisper, answers every prayer, and never disappoints the one who sincerely turns to Him. When you raise your hands to Allah, you are raising them to the One whose treasures never run out, whose mercy encompasses everything, and whose response is guaranteed in the way He knows is best for you. So turn to Him alone, free your heart from all false dependencies, and taste the sweetness of a direct connection with your Creator — a connection that no idol, no statue, and no intermediary can ever provide. This is the call of truth, and it leads to eternal success in this life and the Hereafter.
