Explanation of the Verse:
This majestic verse unveils a profound truth about the universe: all of creation is in a state of submission and glorification to its Creator, yet humans — in their arrogance — dare to dispute His existence, unity, and power.
First, Allah tells us that *the thunder itself glorifies Him with His praise*. The thunder, with its mighty and awe-inspiring sound, is not a random natural phenomenon — it is a created being that humbly declares its Lord's perfection. Every roll of thunder is, in reality, a declaration of Allah's greatness. This teaches us to look beyond the physical and see the spiritual reality: the entire cosmos is alive with the remembrance of its Maker.
Second, *the angels also glorify Him out of fear and reverence*. Unlike humans who may forget or rebel, the angels are constant in their worship, driven by profound awe of Allah's majesty. Their fear is not like human fear — it is a fear born of deep love, respect, and awareness of His absolute greatness.
Third, Allah *sends thunderbolts and strikes with them whom He wills*. These destructive lightning strikes are not random accidents — they are instruments of Allah's will, sometimes bringing punishment to those who deserve it, and sometimes serving as reminders of His power. Yet, astonishingly, *the disbelievers continue to argue about Allah* — disputing His oneness, doubting His ability to resurrect the dead, and questioning His wisdom. They witness the thunder, the lightning, the destruction, and the awe of nature, and still they turn to empty arguments.
Finally, Allah declares: *"And He is severe in might"* — meaning He is mighty in His power, and His retribution against those who persist in disbelief and transgression is overwhelming. No one can escape His grasp, and no one can stand against His will.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, when you hear the thunder roll across the sky, let it not be just a sound that startles you — let it be a reminder. That very thunder is glorifying its Lord, and you are being invited to join that cosmic chorus. The angels above are trembling in awe of Allah, and you are being called to stand in humility before Him.
How can the human heart remain heedless when the heavens and the earth are alive with the remembrance of Allah? The lightning that flashes, the thunder that roars, the rain that falls — all are signs for those who reflect. Do not be like those who argue and dispute while the evidence surrounds them. Instead, be among those who hear the call of creation and respond with faith.
Allah's power is absolute, and His retribution is severe for those who persist in arrogance. But His mercy is even greater for those who turn to Him in sincerity. Let the thunder be your teacher — it glorifies Allah, so glorify Him too. Let the angels be your example — they fear Allah, so stand in awe of Him. And let the thunderbolts be your warning — so that you may hasten to His obedience before the inevitable meeting with Him.
This is the beauty of Islam: it transforms every natural phenomenon into a lesson, every sound into a reminder, and every moment into an opportunity to draw closer to Allah. Embrace this truth, and you will find peace in this world and the next.
