Word Meanings:

  • Yadra'ūn (يَدْرَءُونَ): They repel, push away, or ward off.
  • Bi'l-Hasanah al-Sayyi'ah (بِالْحَسَنَةِ السَّيِّئَةَ): They counter evil with good; they respond to harm or wrongdoing with kindness and virtue.
  • 'Uqbā al-Dār (عُقْبَى الدَّار): The ultimate outcome or final reward of this worldly life, which is Paradise in the Hereafter.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse paints a magnificent portrait of the believers who have attained true faith and are promised the most beautiful reward. These are the people who embody patience in its fullest sense—they remain steadfast in obedience to Allah, enduring hardships and trials with grace, and they restrain themselves from sin, all while seeking nothing but the pleasure of their Lord. Their patience is not for show or personal gain; it is purely for the sake of Allah's noble Face.

They establish the prayer, performing it perfectly and consistently, for prayer is the pillar of faith that connects the servant to his Creator. They also spend from the provisions Allah has granted them—both the obligatory charity (Zakat) and voluntary donations—doing so secretly to protect their sincerity from ostentation, and openly to inspire others and demonstrate the beauty of generosity.

Moreover, they possess a remarkable character: when someone treats them badly, they respond with goodness. They repel evil with kindness, forgiving those who wrong them, giving to those who withhold from them, and maintaining ties with those who sever them. This noble conduct extinguishes hostility and transforms enemies into friends, reflecting the highest moral standard taught by Islam.

For such people—those adorned with these magnificent qualities—there awaits the ultimate reward: Paradise, the blessed outcome of this worldly life. They will inherit gardens of eternal bliss, a reward that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, contemplate the beauty of this divine description! Allah is telling us that the path to eternal success is not through wealth, status, or power, but through patience, prayer, charity, and noble character. These are attainable by every one of us, regardless of our circumstances. The door of Paradise is open to all who strive to embody these virtues.

Imagine the peace that comes from knowing that every hardship you endure patiently, every prayer you offer sincerely, every coin you give in charity, and every evil you repel with good is being recorded by Allah and will be returned to you multiplied beyond measure. This is the trade that never fails—investing in your Hereafter with actions that cost you little but yield eternal dividends.

Let this verse inspire you to elevate your character, strengthen your connection with Allah, and treat others with kindness even when they mistreat you. For the reward is not merely a promise—it is a certainty from the Most Merciful, who never breaks His word. May Allah make us among those described in this verse, and may He grant us the ultimate reward of Paradise.
