Tafsir (Explanation):
Just as Allah sent down His previous scriptures to His prophets in the languages of their own peoples to make the message clear and accessible, He sent down to you, O Prophet, the Qur’an as a decisive and just criterion—revealed in the pure Arabic tongue. It is a complete code of life, distinguishing truth from falsehood, and it carries the final and most comprehensive divine guidance for all of humanity.
And if you were to follow the desires of the disbelievers and the People of the Book—who seek to distort the truth and pull you away from what has been revealed—after the clear knowledge that has come to you from your Lord, then know that you would have no protector from Allah and no defender to shield you from His punishment. This is a stern warning directed to the Prophet ﷺ, but its message extends to every believer: the truth has been made manifest, and turning away from it—even slightly—in pursuit of worldly approval or compromise leaves one utterly exposed and without divine support.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the honor and responsibility of carrying this divine message. The Qur’an is not merely a book to be recited; it is a living constitution for justice, mercy, and righteousness. Its Arabic revelation was a deliberate choice, making it a timeless miracle that transcends geography and generation. Hold fast to it, for in it lies your success, your protection, and your salvation. Let this inspire you to cherish the Qur’an, study it, and implement it in your life—for whoever clings to it will never be led astray, and whoever abandons it has no true ally or guardian besides Allah.
