📖 English Meaning
And keep yourself patient [by being] with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His countenance. And let not your eyes pass beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever [in] neglect.

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

Restrain and keep your soul steadfast, binding it patiently.
In the morning and the evening — i.e., at the beginning and end of the day.
Seeking His Face alone — desiring only Allah’s pleasure, not any worldly gain.
Do not let your eyes overlook them or turn away from them toward others.
The one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance.
Excessive, wasteful, and lost — his affairs are ruined and beyond bounds.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This noble verse was revealed in a context where some wealthy leaders of Quraysh, like ‘Uyaynah ibn Hisn al-Fazari, asked the Prophet ﷺ to dismiss the poor companions from his gathering — people like Bilal, ‘Ammar, Suhayb, and Khabbab — so that the rich could sit with him. They argued that these poor believers were of lowly appearance and status. But Allah, the Most High, commanded His Prophet ﷺ with a profound and timeless instruction:

“Restrain yourself patiently with those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His Face.”

This is a direct command to remain in the company of the sincere believers — the humble, the poor, the devoted — who worship Allah alone and supplicate to Him at the dawn and the dusk. They are not seeking status, wealth, or fame; their only aim is the pleasure of Allah. Their gatherings are blessed, and their hearts are alive with remembrance.

Then Allah says: “And do not let your eyes overlook them, desiring the adornment of the worldly life.” This is a warning against being dazzled by the glitter of this world — the wealth, the status, the fine garments of the rich and powerful. The believer’s measure of people is not their outward appearance or worldly possessions, but their faith and devotion. Turning away from the poor believers to please the wealthy is a spiritual loss that no worldly gain can compensate.

Finally, Allah commands: “And do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance, who follows his own desires, and whose affair is [ever] wasted.” This refers to those who are blinded by their whims and desires, whose hearts are sealed from the remembrance of Allah. They call to what pleases their egos, not what pleases Allah. Their affairs are scattered and ruined because they have abandoned the straight path. The Prophet ﷺ was told not to listen to them in this matter — and this is a lesson for every believer: never compromise your principles, never abandon the righteous poor for the influential rich, and never follow the advice of those whose hearts are disconnected from Allah.

A Da‘wah Reflection:

This verse is a beautiful lesson in loyalty, humility, and the true measure of honor in Islam. In a world that often judges people by their wealth, status, or appearance, Allah teaches us that the most honored among us are those who are most devoted to Him. The poor companions of the Prophet ﷺ were not less valuable — they were treasures of faith. Their presence was a source of barakah (blessing), and their prayers were sincere.

So, dear believer, hold fast to the company of the righteous — even if they are poor in this world’s eyes. Do not be dazzled by the temporary glitter of wealth and status. And beware of those whose hearts are heedless of Allah, for they will only lead you away from His path. Let your heart be attached to the remembrance of Allah, and let your gatherings be filled with those who seek His Face. For the pleasure of Allah is the greatest treasure, and nothing in this fleeting world can ever compare to it.

📜 Verse 26-30 — Al-Kahf

Say, "Allah is most knowing of how long they remained. He has [knowledge of] the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. How Seeing is He and how Hearing! They have not besides Him any protector, and He shares not His legislation with anyone."
And recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord. There is no changer of His words, and never will you find in other than Him a refuge.
And say, "The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve." Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - indeed, We will not allow to be lost the reward of any who did well in deeds.
