Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Aslama wajhahu" (أَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهُ): To submit one's entire self and direction wholeheartedly to Allah, with sincerity and devotion.
- "Muhsin" (مُحْسِن): One who performs deeds with excellence, following the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in words and actions.
- "Ajruhu" (أَجْرُهُ): His reward, which is Paradise and Allah's pleasure.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse refutes the false claims of those who asserted that Paradise is exclusive to a particular group—whether Jews, Christians, or others—based solely on their religious labels or ancestry. Allah clarifies that the matter is not as they claimed. Rather, the key to salvation and entry into Paradise is sincere submission to Allah alone, with no partner, combined with excellence in one's deeds by following the guidance brought by His final Messenger, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Whoever turns their face—meaning their entire being, intention, and worship—toward Allah with complete sincerity, and is a doer of good by adhering to the divine commandments and avoiding prohibitions, then such a person will receive their full reward from their Lord. This reward is the eternal bliss of Paradise, regardless of their tribe, nationality, or former faith. For these believers, there will be no fear concerning what lies ahead in the Hereafter—no terror of the reckoning, the scales, or the crossing of the Sirat—and no grief over what they may have missed in this worldly life, for they have secured the ultimate success that outweighs every worldly loss.
It is important to note that after the advent of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), this description of true submission and excellence is only fully realized in the followers of Islam, as his message is the final and complete revelation that perfects all previous scriptures.
A Call to Reflection:
How beautiful is this divine promise! Allah does not look at your name, your color, or your lineage—He looks at your heart and your deeds. The door of His mercy is open to every soul that sincerely turns to Him and strives to do good. This is the essence of Islam: a pure, unburdened path to peace with your Creator, tranquility in your heart, and eternal security in the life to come. Embrace this truth, and let your heart find rest in the promise of a Lord who never breaks His word. For those who submit and excel, there is nothing to fear and nothing to grieve—only the everlasting joy of His nearness and His generous reward.
