Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Phrases:

  • "Rasoolan minkum" — a Messenger from among yourselves, i.e., one of your own people, not a stranger or an angel.
  • "Yatlu" — recites, reads aloud, conveys.
  • "Yuzakkeekum" — purifies you, cleanses you from sin, polytheism, and bad morals; develops your spiritual growth.
  • "Al-Kitab" — the Book, i.e., the Qur'an.
  • "Al-Hikmah" — the wisdom, i.e., the Sunnah (the Prophet's teachings, actions, and approved practices) and the profound understanding of religion.
  • "Ma lam takoonu ta'lamoon" — what you did not know, i.e., matters of faith, unseen realities, and the stories of past nations.

The Tafsir (Explanation):

Just as Allah bestowed upon you the great blessing of turning your face towards the Sacred Mosque (the Ka'bah), He has also completed His favor upon you with an even greater gift: He sent you a Messenger from among yourselves — Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He is not a stranger to you; he knows your language, your customs, your struggles, and your nature. This makes his message relatable and his example attainable.

This noble Messenger carries out four magnificent tasks for your benefit:

  1. He recites to you Allah's verses — the clear and decisive signs of the Qur'an that distinguish truth from falsehood, guidance from misguidance, and the lawful from the prohibited. Through this recitation, your hearts are illuminated and your minds are awakened.
  2. He purifies you — he cleanses your souls from the filth of polytheism, ignorance, arrogance, envy, and all evil traits. He trains you to adorn yourselves with sincerity, honesty, patience, mercy, and every beautiful character. This purification is the key to your spiritual success and inner peace.
  3. He teaches you the Book and the Wisdom — he teaches you the Qur'an and the Sunnah (his prophetic traditions), along with the rulings and principles of Islamic law. He explains how to worship, how to deal with others, and how to build a righteous society. This knowledge transforms your lives from darkness into light.
  4. He teaches you what you never knew — he imparts to you the stories of the prophets, the fate of previous nations, the realities of the Hereafter, and the secrets of creation. You were living in ignorance, but now you have been given the most profound knowledge that elevates your minds and connects you to your Creator.

This is a mercy beyond measure. Reflect, dear reader: Allah did not leave you to wander in confusion. He sent you a teacher, a purifier, and a guide — from your own kind — so that you may know your purpose, purify your souls, and attain eternal success. This is an invitation to embrace this divine gift with gratitude, to follow this Messenger with love, and to let his teachings transform your life. For in following him lies your honor in this world and your salvation in the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 149-153 — Al-Baqarah

So from wherever you go out [for prayer, O Muhammad] turn your face toward al- Masjid al-Haram, and indeed, it is the truth from your Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.
And from wherever you go out [for prayer], turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you [believers] may be, turn your faces toward it in order that the people will not have any argument against you, except for those of them who commit wrong; so fear them not but fear Me. And [it is] so I may complete My favor upon you and that you may be guided.
Just as We have sent among you a messenger from yourselves reciting to you Our verses and purifying you and teaching you the Book and wisdom and teaching you that which you did not know.
So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.
O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.
