Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

(Harth): A cultivated field or farmland — a metaphor for the place where seeds are sown to produce offspring.
(Anna): In whatever manner, from whichever direction, or however you wish.
(Wa qaddimu li anfusikum): Send forth good deeds for your own benefit — i.e., perform righteous actions that will avail you in the Hereafter.
(Mulaqūh): You shall surely meet Him — referring to standing before Allah on the Day of Judgment.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Your wives are like a fertile field for you — a place where the seed of life is sown, and from which Allah brings forth children by His will, just as the earth brings forth plants from seeds. This beautiful metaphor teaches us the sacred purpose of marriage: it is not merely for physical gratification, but for the continuation of humanity through righteous offspring, raised to worship Allah and carry His message.

Allah then says: "So come to your field however you wish" — meaning, approach your wives in the place of cultivation itself, which is the front passage (the vagina), from any direction — whether from the front or the back — as long as the intercourse occurs in the proper place. This was revealed to correct a misunderstanding among some companions who had asked about a permissible position, and Allah clarified that what matters is the place, not the posture. This shows the mercy of Allah in making His religion easy and practical, addressing human needs with divine wisdom.

Then comes a profound instruction: "And send forth for yourselves" — meaning, before you engage in this intimate act, intend good for yourself. Say *Bismillah* (in the name of Allah), and make the intention of seeking righteous offspring, of fulfilling the rights of your spouse, and of drawing closer to Allah through lawful enjoyment. Even in the most personal moments of life, a believer turns them into acts of worship and opportunities for reward. This is the beauty of Islam — it elevates every permissible action into a means of drawing nearer to Allah when accompanied by sincere intention.

"And fear Allah" — be conscious of Him in all your affairs, especially in how you treat your wives. Do not transgress His limits, do not harm or oppress, and remember that He sees and knows all that you do. "And know that you shall meet Him" — you will stand before Him on the Day of Judgment, and every deed — great or small, hidden or public — will be brought forth. So prepare for that meeting while you still have the chance.

Finally, Allah says: "And give glad tidings to the believers" — O Prophet, and by extension, to all who carry this message — announce the good news to those who believe and do righteous deeds: they will have gardens of eternal bliss, the pleasure of their Lord, and the honor of gazing upon His noble Face. This is the ultimate reward that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader — see how Allah addresses you with such gentleness and clarity. He does not leave you in confusion about your religious duties, even in matters that people often shy away from discussing. He teaches you how to transform even your most private moments into acts of obedience and sources of reward. This is the religion of mercy and completeness.

So, my beloved brother and sister in humanity — take these verses to heart. Purify your intentions, guard your actions, and remember that every moment of your life is an opportunity to invest in your eternal future. The One who created you, who knows your needs and your nature, has given you a complete way of life that brings peace to the soul, harmony to the family, and success in both worlds. Embrace it with an open heart, and you will find true happiness — in this life and the next.

📜 Verse 221-225 — Al-Baqarah

And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe. And a believing slave woman is better than a polytheist, even though she might please you. And do not marry polytheistic men [to your women] until they believe. And a believing slave is better than a polytheist, even though he might please you. Those invite [you] to the Fire, but Allah invites to Paradise and to forgiveness, by His permission. And He makes clear His verses to the people that perhaps they may remember.
And they ask you about menstruation. Say, "It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you. Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves."
Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish and put forth [righteousness] for yourselves. And fear Allah and know that you will meet Him. And give good tidings to the believers.
And do not make [your oath by] Allah an excuse against being righteous and fearing Allah and making peace among people. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
Allah does not impose blame upon you for what is unintentional in your oaths, but He imposes blame upon you for what your hearts have earned. And Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing.
