Word Meanings:

  • Rayb (رَيْب): Doubt, uncertainty, or suspicion.
  • Ma Nazzalna (مَا نَزَّلْنَا): What We have sent down — referring to the Qur'an.
  • 'Abdina (عَبْدِنَا): Our servant — meaning Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
  • Suuratim min mithlihi (سُورَةٍ مِن مِّثْلِهِ): A chapter like it — i.e., comparable in eloquence, wisdom, and guidance.
  • Shuhada'akum (شُهَدَاءَكُم): Your witnesses or helpers — those you call upon for support besides Allah.

Explanation of the Verse:

O people, if you are in any doubt about the truth of this Qur'an that We have sent down to Our servant Muhammad (peace be upon him), and you claim that it is not from Allah but rather the words of a human being, then here is a challenge for you: produce just one chapter like it. Not the whole book — just one single chapter, even the shortest one like *Al-Kawthar* (Chapter 108). And if you think you cannot do it alone, then call upon all your helpers, your idols, your poets, your eloquent speakers, and anyone you rely on besides Allah to assist you in this task. Bring your combined forces and try to match even a fraction of the Qur'an's miraculous nature — if you are truly truthful in your claim that Muhammad (peace be upon him) fabricated this book himself.

This is a challenge that was issued to the most eloquent Arabs of that time, a people who were masters of poetry and rhetoric. Yet, despite their immense linguistic abilities, they could not produce anything remotely similar to the Qur'an. This inability itself is a clear proof that the Qur'an is not the work of any human, but the very Word of Allah, the Lord of all worlds.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse is not just a historical challenge — it is an eternal invitation to reflect. The Qur'an has remained unmatched for over 1,400 years. No one, in any era, has been able to produce a chapter like it, despite the challenge being open to all of humanity until the end of time. This is a sign of its divine origin. Let this verse inspire you to approach the Qur'an with an open heart and a sincere mind. Read it, ponder its meanings, and you will find within it a light that guides you to truth, peace, and success in this life and the Hereafter. Allah, in His mercy, has made His message clear and has left no excuse for anyone who seeks the truth sincerely. Embrace this divine gift, and let it transform your life.

📜 Verse 21-25 — Al-Baqarah

O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous -
[He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him].
And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful.
But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.
And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with a provision of fruit therefrom, they will say, "This is what we were provided with before." And it is given to them in likeness. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally.
