Word Meanings:

You do not do it": meaning, you are unable to produce a chapter like the Qur'an.
And you will never do it": a definitive statement that this inability will persist forever.
Then guard yourselves against the Fire": protect yourselves by believing and obeying Allah.
Its fuel": that which feeds and kindles the fire.
Prepared": made ready and fully equipped.

Explanation of the Verse:

After Allah challenged the disbelievers to produce even a single chapter like the Qur'an, and after they failed—and will continue to fail until the end of time—He now directs them to the only path of safety. He says: *"If you do not do it—and you will never do it—then guard yourselves against the Fire."* This is not merely a warning; it is an invitation to save oneself from a terrible fate. The way to guard against this Fire is to believe in the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and to submit to Allah's commands.

The Fire described here is unlike any fire we know. Its fuel is not wood or oil—it is people and stones. The people are those who rejected faith and persisted in disbelief, and the stones are the idols they worshipped, as well as sulfurous stones that burn with intense heat. This pairing is deeply significant: those who worshipped stones in this world will, in the Hereafter, be burned with those very stones. The Fire has already been prepared, kindled, and made ready specifically for the disbelievers—those who denied Allah, His messengers, and His signs.

This verse carries a profound message of mercy within its severity. Allah does not wish for anyone to enter this Fire. That is why He clearly tells them how to avoid it: by faith and obedience. The door of repentance is open, and the warning is given before the punishment arrives. It is a call to wake up, to reflect, and to turn back to the Creator before it is too late.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, imagine a fire that is already burning, waiting for its fuel. The only way to ensure you are not part of that fuel is to respond to the call of truth now. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has shown you the danger and the way out. He did not leave you without guidance—He sent the Qur'an, a book that challenges and amazes, and He sent the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a mercy to all worlds. The choice is yours: to be among those who guarded themselves and entered Paradise, or to be among those who ignored the warning and became fuel for the Fire. Do not delay. Today is the day of action; tomorrow may be too late. Embrace faith, and let your heart find peace in the remembrance of Allah.

📜 Verse 22-26 — Al-Baqarah

[He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him].
And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful.
But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.
And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with a provision of fruit therefrom, they will say, "This is what we were provided with before." And it is given to them in likeness. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally.
Indeed, Allah is not timid to present an example - that of a mosquito or what is smaller than it. And those who have believed know that it is the truth from their Lord. But as for those who disbelieve, they say, "What did Allah intend by this as an example?" He misleads many thereby and guides many thereby. And He misleads not except the defiantly disobedient,
