📖 English Meaning
Indeed, Allah is not timid to present an example - that of a mosquito or what is smaller than it. And those who have believed know that it is the truth from their Lord. But as for those who disbelieve, they say, "What did Allah intend by this as an example?" He misleads many thereby and guides many thereby. And He misleads not except the defiantly disobedient,

Word Meanings:

  • لَا يَسْتَحْيِي (lā yastaḥyī): Does not shy away or feel ashamed; does not refrain from.
  • يَضْرِبَ مَثَلًا (yaḍriba mathalan): To set forth a parable or an example.
  • مَا بَعُوضَةً (mā baʿūḍatan): Even something as small as a mosquito.
  • فَمَا فَوْقَهَا (fa-mā fawqahā): And what is above it (i.e., larger than it, such as a fly or spider, or smaller, as some scholars interpret).
  • الْفَاسِقِينَ (al-fāsiqīn): Those who defiantly disobey Allah’s commands and transgress His limits.

Explanation of the Verse:

Allah, in His infinite wisdom and majesty, does not hesitate to set forth parables using even the smallest of His creations—like a mosquito, a fly, or a spider. He does this to teach profound truths, test His servants, and distinguish the sincere believers from the arrogant disbelievers. There is nothing too insignificant in His creation that cannot carry a great lesson.

When such parables are revealed, people divide into two groups:

First: The Believers — They reflect deeply and recognize that every parable from Allah carries wisdom, truth, and guidance. They submit with humility, saying, "Our Lord has spoken the truth," and their faith increases. They understand that Allah, the Creator of all things, knows what benefits His servants and what draws them closer to Him.

Second: The Disbelievers — They mock and ask in arrogance: "What does Allah mean by comparing us to such lowly creatures?" They fail to see the wisdom behind the example and use it as an excuse to reject the truth. Their hearts are sealed because of their pride and refusal to reflect.

Allah then explains the divine purpose: Through these parables, He allows many to go astray (because they turn away from reflection and persist in mockery) and guides many to the right path (because they ponder and accept the truth). This is not injustice from Allah—rather, it is a manifestation of His perfect justice. He only lets go astray those who have already chosen disobedience and rebellion against Him—the *fāsiqūn*—those who have corrupted their nature by persistently rejecting His signs.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, see how the Qur’an elevates your mind! It teaches you that even a tiny mosquito can carry a universe of wisdom. Allah is not ashamed to use the smallest example because His words are not about size—they are about truth. When you approach the Qur’an with an open heart, every verse becomes a light. But when you approach it with arrogance, even the clearest sign becomes a stumbling block.

So ask yourself: Which group do you belong to? Do you look at Allah’s parables with the eyes of a believer who seeks guidance, or with the eyes of a skeptic who seeks excuses? The choice is yours. Allah has made the path clear, and He invites you to reflect, so that you may be among those whom He guides to His light. Do not let pride deprive you of the greatest treasure—the knowledge of your Lord and the peace that comes with faith.

📜 Verse 24-28 — Al-Baqarah

But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.
And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with a provision of fruit therefrom, they will say, "This is what we were provided with before." And it is given to them in likeness. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally.
Indeed, Allah is not timid to present an example - that of a mosquito or what is smaller than it. And those who have believed know that it is the truth from their Lord. But as for those who disbelieve, they say, "What did Allah intend by this as an example?" He misleads many thereby and guides many thereby. And He misleads not except the defiantly disobedient,
Who break the covenant of Allah after contracting it and sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined and cause corruption on earth. It is those who are the losers.
How can you disbelieve in Allah when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you [back] to life, and then to Him you will be returned.
