- Lā Tuzlamūn (لَا تُظْلَمُونَ): You will not be wronged — meaning you will not have anything deducted from your reward.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O noble Messenger, you are not responsible for forcing people to accept guidance or compelling them to believe. Your duty is only to convey the message clearly and show them the path of truth. Whether they accept it or not is not within your power — for guidance in the true sense — the guidance of success and opening the heart — is solely in the Hands of Allah. He grants this blessing to whom He wills, out of His infinite wisdom and mercy. So do not withhold charity from anyone out of concern that they might not be Muslim — for your obligation is only to guide and inform, while the outcome rests with Allah alone.
Then Allah addresses all believers: Whatever good you spend — whether wealth, time, or effort — its benefit returns to you, not to Allah, for He is Self-Sufficient and free of all need. Your spending does not benefit Him in any way; rather, it is a means of purification for your own souls and a source of reward for yourselves. True believers do not spend except sincerely seeking the Face of Allah — meaning His pleasure and reward — not for show, reputation, or worldly gain. This is the purest intention, and it is what elevates a simple act of charity into an act of worship.
And whatever good you spend — be it little or much — Allah will repay you in full, with complete and perfect reward, and you will not be wronged in the slightest. Not a single good deed will be lost, not a single penny of charity will go unnoticed. Allah does not decrease anyone's reward, nor does He overlook any act of goodness. Rather, He multiplies it many times over, as He says elsewhere: "The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills" (2:261).
This verse beautifully reassures the believer that no act of goodness — no matter how small — is ever wasted. It also teaches us a profound lesson about sincerity: our giving should be purely for Allah's sake, not for any worldly return or human praise. When we purify our intentions, our charity becomes a means of drawing closer to Allah, purifying our hearts from attachment to wealth, and building a society of compassion and mutual support.
So, dear believer, spend generously and sincerely — for your Lord sees every effort, records every deed, and will reward you in full on the Day when all accounts are settled. And know that your spending is never a loss; it is an investment with the Most Generous, Who never breaks His promise and never wrongs any soul.
