Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, the Most Merciful and All-Powerful, has made a true and certain promise to those among His servants who possess two qualities: true faith (Iman) and righteous deeds (Amal Salih). This is not a mere wish or hope—it is a divine covenant that will undoubtedly be fulfilled. Allah promises them four magnificent blessings:
First: He will make them successors and inheritors in the earth, just as He granted succession to the righteous believers who came before them—such as Prophet Dawud (David), Prophet Sulayman (Solomon), and the Children of Israel who inherited the land of the oppressors. This means the believers will be given authority, power, and the ability to establish justice in the land.
Second: He will firmly establish for them their religion—the religion He has chosen and approved for them, which is Islam. This religion will be made strong, victorious, and dominant over all other ways of life. The believers will be able to practice their faith openly, freely, and with dignity, without fear of persecution.
Third: He will replace their fear with security and peace. This was a lived reality for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions. They spent years in Makkah living in fear, unable to worship openly. Even after migrating to Madinah, they would sleep with their weapons by their sides. But when Allah’s promise was fulfilled, He granted them such security that a woman could travel alone from one end of the land to the other without fear—all because of the strength and justice of the Islamic state.
Fourth: All of this comes with a condition and a description: they worship Allah alone, associating nothing with Him. This is the essence of Tawheed (monotheism)—pure, sincere devotion to Allah without any partner, rival, or intermediary. Their worship is not merely ritual; it is a complete way of life that reflects their total submission to their Creator.
Then Allah issues a serious warning: "And whoever disbelieves after that—those are the rebellious transgressors." This means that whoever rejects these blessings, denies Allah’s favors, or turns away from obedience after witnessing His promise fulfilled, has committed a grave sin. Such people are the Fasiqoon—those who have strayed from the straight path and rebelled against their Lord’s command.
A Call to the Believers:
Dear believer, this verse is a source of immense hope and motivation. It teaches us that no matter how difficult our circumstances may seem, Allah’s promise is certain. If we hold firm to our faith and continue doing righteous deeds, Allah will grant us victory, honor, and security. The history of the early Muslims is a living testimony to this truth—they were weak and oppressed, yet Allah fulfilled His promise and made them leaders of the world.
This verse also reminds us of the importance of sincerity in worship. Our success is tied to our commitment to worship Allah alone, without any form of shirk (associating partners with Allah)—whether in our beliefs, our words, or our actions. When we purify our worship and dedicate ourselves wholly to Allah, He opens doors of success that we could never imagine.
So hold fast to your faith, persist in good deeds, and trust in Allah’s promise. The victory of this Ummah is not a distant dream—it is a divine guarantee for those who truly believe and act upon their faith. May Allah make us among those who fulfill this condition and receive this beautiful promise. Ameen.
