Word Meanings:
- Yuqimoona al-salah (يُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَاةَ): They establish the prayer perfectly, performing it with all its conditions, pillars, and obligations, at its prescribed times.
- Yu'toona al-zakah (يُؤْتُونَ الزَّكَاةَ): They give the obligatory charity (zakah) to those entitled to receive it.
- Yooqinoon (يُوقِنُونَ): They have absolute, unwavering certainty and firm belief, free from any doubt.
Interpretation of the Verse:
After Allah mentions the Quran as a guide and glad tidings for the believers, He describes these believers with their most prominent qualities. They are those who establish the five daily prayers, completing them with all their conditions, pillars, and etiquettes, performing them at their appointed times with humility and devotion. They also give the obligatory zakah from their wealth, purifying their money and souls by spending it on those who deserve it among the poor, the needy, and other eligible recipients. And they have firm, unshakable certainty in the Hereafter — in resurrection, reckoning, Paradise, and Hellfire — and they act upon this certainty in every aspect of their lives.
These three qualities — prayer, zakah, and certainty in the Hereafter — are the foundation of a believer's life. Prayer connects the servant to his Lord, zakah connects him to society, and certainty in the Hereafter directs his entire journey toward the eternal abode. Whoever combines these three has truly grasped the essence of faith and deserves the glad tidings of success in this life and the next.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, contemplate how beautifully the Quran describes the believers. It does not merely ask for belief in the unseen, but links that belief to practical actions that transform the individual and society. The prayer purifies the soul and keeps it connected to its Creator five times a day. The zakah purifies the wealth and spreads love and mercy among the community. And certainty in the Hereafter gives life purpose and meaning, reminding us that this world is but a fleeting station on the way to an eternal destination.
These are not heavy burdens — they are keys to peace, contentment, and ultimate success. When you establish your prayer, you find tranquility. When you give your zakah, you feel the joy of sharing. When you are certain of the Hereafter, you live with hope and purpose, knowing that every good deed is stored with Allah and will never be lost. This is the path of the believers — a path of light, mercy, and eternal bliss. May Allah make us among them.
