Explanation of the Verse:
When the Queen of Sheba arrived at the court of Prophet Sulaymān (peace be upon him), he had already received her throne through a miraculous feat by one who possessed knowledge from the Scripture. Now, to test her intelligence, discernment, and the soundness of her mind, Sulaymān ordered his court: *"Disguise her throne for her"* — meaning, change its appearance, color, shape, or arrangement so that it would no longer look as it did when she left it. Then, he said: *"We shall see whether she is guided"* — that is, whether she will recognize that this is indeed her own throne despite the alterations, or whether she will be among those who fail to perceive and recognize what is right before them.
This was a profound test of her wisdom, observation, and inner clarity. Sulaymān did not simply ask her directly; rather, he created a situation that would reveal the depth of her understanding and her ability to see beyond appearances. When she arrived and was asked, *"Is your throne like this?"* she replied with remarkable insight: *"It is as though it were it itself"* — demonstrating that she possessed both intelligence and the capacity to reason soundly.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a beautiful lesson for every seeker of truth. Sulaymān, a prophet and king endowed with immense power, did not rely on force or intimidation to guide the Queen. Instead, he used wisdom, observation, and gentle testing to open her heart to the truth. This teaches us that true guidance is not about compulsion — it is about creating the right conditions for a person to reflect, recognize, and willingly embrace what is right.
Notice how the Queen's intelligence and honesty were honored. She did not stubbornly deny what she perceived; she acknowledged it with clarity. And because of her sincerity and open-mindedness, Allah guided her to the light of Islam. This is a powerful reminder that when a person genuinely seeks the truth with an open heart, Allah facilitates their path to it. The verse also encourages us to value sound reasoning and perceptiveness — qualities that lead a person to recognize the signs of Allah in the world around them.
Let us ask ourselves: Are we among those who recognize the truth when it is presented to us, even if it comes in an unfamiliar form? Or do we let pride and habit blind us? The Queen of Sheba teaches us that humility before the truth is the key to true honor — both in this world and the Hereafter.
