Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Bala (بَلَىٰ): Yes, indeed — an affirmative particle used to confirm and emphasize what follows.
  • Min fawrihim (مِن فَوْرِهِمْ): Immediately, at once, from their very moment — meaning without delay, rushing swiftly.
  • Yumiddakum (يُمْدِدْكُمْ): He will reinforce you, supply you with support and strength.
  • Musawwimeen (مُسَوِّمِينَ): Marked with distinctive signs — the angels were distinguished by visible marks on themselves and their horses, making their identity clear.

The Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse is a direct and powerful response from Allah to the believers who had asked about the divine help promised at the Battle of Badr. Allah had already assured them that three thousand angels would descend to support them. Now, He adds a further, even greater promise: "Yes, indeed!" — confirming that this assistance is real and sufficient. But then He opens the door to an even more magnificent blessing.

Allah sets a condition for this additional reinforcement: "If you remain patient and are God-conscious" — meaning, if you stand firm in the face of the enemy, controlling your hearts and actions, and if you maintain taqwa (piety, awareness of Allah) by obeying His commands and avoiding what He has forbidden — "and they (the disbelievers) come upon you at once, rushing from this very moment" — that is, if the pagans of Makkah suddenly descend upon you in a swift and fierce attack, thinking they can overwhelm you and destroy you in one strike — "then your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels, clearly marked."

These angels were not ordinary; they were distinguished with visible signs — on their persons and on their horses — so that the believers would recognize them and be filled with certainty and courage, and so that the enemy would be struck with terror. This was not merely a numerical reinforcement; it was a spiritual and psychological transformation of the battlefield.

Notice the beauty of this promise: the three thousand angels mentioned earlier were already a great gift, but Allah, in His infinite generosity, did not stop there. He promised an additional two thousand, bringing the total to five thousand — but only on the condition of patience and piety. This teaches us a profound lesson: divine help is not random; it is tied to our own state. When we remain steadfast and conscious of Allah, the heavens themselves open with support beyond our imagination.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, see how your Lord responds to your sincerity! He does not leave you alone in your struggles. When you face trials — whether in battle, in life, in your career, or in your faith — remember this verse. Your patience and your taqwa are not just acts of worship; they are keys that unlock the gates of divine assistance. Allah is not far from you; He is near, ready to send His aid in ways you cannot even perceive.

This is the beauty of Islam: it teaches us that we are never alone. The angels of Allah descend for those who hold firm to their faith. So, strengthen your patience, guard your consciousness of Allah, and face your challenges with the certainty that His help is closer to you than your own shadow. And when you see the signs of His support — in the calm of your heart, the ease of your affairs, or the victory over your difficulties — let your gratitude grow, for He is indeed the Best of Helpers.

📜 Verse 123-127 — Aal-Imran

And already had Allah given you victory at [the battle of] Badr while you were few in number. Then fear Allah; perhaps you will be grateful.
[Remember] when you said to the believers, "Is it not sufficient for you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down?
Yes, if you remain patient and conscious of Allah and the enemy come upon you [attacking] in rage, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels having marks [of distinction]
And Allah made it not except as [a sign of] good tidings for you and to reassure your hearts thereby. And victory is not except from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise -
That He might cut down a section of the disbelievers or suppress them so that they turn back disappointed.
