Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Tumaddakum (يُمِدَّكُمْ): To reinforce or strengthen you with additional support.
- Munzaleen (مُنزَلِين): Sent down from the heavens to the earth.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet, remember when you spoke to the believers on the day of Badr, reassuring them and lifting their spirits. News had reached them that the polytheists were receiving reinforcements, and this weighed heavily on their hearts. At that critical moment, Allah inspired you to say to them: "Is it not enough for you that your Lord will reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down from the heavens to the battlefield?"
This was a divine promise of heavenly support—angels descending to fight alongside the believers, strengthening their resolve and ensuring their victory. The question posed was rhetorical, meant to awaken their faith and remind them that Allah's help is greater than any earthly army. If three thousand angels were not enough, then Allah would increase them to five thousand, as mentioned in the following verse.
This verse teaches us a profound lesson: when we face overwhelming odds, we must remember that Allah's power knows no limits. The believers at Badr were few in number and meager in equipment, yet Allah granted them victory through His unseen armies. This is a timeless reminder that no matter how difficult our circumstances may seem, Allah's assistance is always near for those who place their trust in Him.
Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this divine reassurance. Allah did not merely promise help—He specified the number of angels to comfort the hearts of the believers. This shows His intimate knowledge of our needs and His desire to console us. When you face trials in your life, remember that the same Lord who sent angels to aid His servants at Badr is with you today. Call upon Him with certainty, and He will open doors of help you never imagined. The Quran is filled with such stories of divine intervention—let them be a source of strength and hope in your journey of faith.
