Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- "Aqim wajhaka" (أَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ): Direct your face and intention sincerely and steadfastly — the face is mentioned because it is the noblest part of a person and the center of the senses.
- "Hanifan" (حَنِيفًا): Inclining away from all false religions and deviations, turning purely and exclusively to the one true religion — Islam.
- "Fitrat Allah" (فِطْرَةَ اللَّهِ): The natural disposition upon which Allah has created humanity — the innate recognition of His Oneness and the inclination to worship Him alone.
- "Qayyim" (قَيِّم): Straight, upright, and free from any crookedness or distortion.
The Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet, and all who follow you, direct your heart, your intention, and your entire being toward the religion that Allah has chosen for you — Islam — turning away from every false path and every distorted belief. This is the very nature (fitrah) upon which Allah created all human beings: the pure, untainted recognition that there is no god but Allah and that He alone deserves worship. It is as natural to the human soul as breathing — for every child is born upon this fitrah, and it is only external influences that lead people away from it.
There is no change in the creation of Allah — meaning, do not alter or replace this natural religion, for it is the unchanging truth that suits the very design of the human being. This religion — Islam — is the straight, upright path that leads directly to the pleasure of Allah and to Paradise. It is the path of balance, justice, and mercy, perfectly aligned with the way Allah created us.
Yet most people do not know this truth, because they do not reflect deeply, and because they have allowed customs, desires, and inherited traditions to veil their natural perception. Had they paused and looked within themselves, they would have found the call to Islam echoing in their own hearts — for it is the religion that matches the very blueprint of their creation.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, pause for a moment and ask yourself: What does your heart naturally incline toward when you are alone, in times of hardship, or when you witness the vastness of the universe? That inner pull toward the Creator, that sense that there must be a purpose beyond this worldly life — that is your fitrah speaking to you. Islam is not a foreign imposition; it is the return to your own true nature. Embrace it, and you will find peace that no worldly pursuit can give. The door is open, the path is clear, and your Creator is waiting for you to come home. Do not let the ignorance of the majority keep you from the truth that your own soul already knows.
