Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Amirtu" (أُمِرْتُ): I have been commanded/ordered.
- "Mukhliṣan" (مُخْلِصًا): Being sincere and pure in devotion, free from any form of shirk (associating partners with Allah).
- "Al-Dīn" (الدِّين): The entire religion, worship, and obedience — all acts of devotion rendered exclusively to Allah.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger, say to all people clearly and without ambiguity: "I have been commanded by my Lord to worship Allah alone — with complete sincerity and purity in all my religious deeds, making my worship, my prayers, my sacrifices, and my entire life exclusively for Him, without any partner or associate." This command is not merely a personal instruction; it is the very essence of the message brought by all prophets. The Prophet ﷺ was ordered to be the first among his nation to submit to Allah in this pure monotheism — to surrender fully to His will, to dedicate all acts of devotion solely to Him, and to disassociate himself from every false deity and every form of worship directed to anything other than Allah. This verse establishes the foundation of Islam: that true servitude to Allah requires sincerity (ikhlāṣ) — a heart free from hypocrisy, and deeds free from showing off or seeking the approval of others. It teaches that the purpose of our existence is to worship Allah alone, and that this worship must be pure, untainted by any trace of polytheism.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this profound statement from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He was commanded to worship Allah with sincere devotion — and this same command extends to every believer who follows him. Imagine the beauty of a life where every action, every intention, and every moment is dedicated purely to the Creator of the heavens and the earth. This is the path to true peace and inner tranquility. When you purify your worship for Allah alone, you free yourself from the chains of people-pleasing, from the burden of seeking validation from creation, and from the confusion of divided loyalties. Islam invites you to this magnificent freedom — to stand before your Lord with a heart that is pure, sincere, and devoted only to Him. This is the key to success in this life and the next. Will you not answer this call and make your worship purely for Allah?
