Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Kabā’ir (كَبَائِر): Major sins — grave offenses that carry a specific punishment in this world, a divine threat of punishment in the Hereafter, or are explicitly forbidden with severe warnings.
  • Nukaffir (نُكَفِّر): We will erase and wipe away — meaning to completely remove the effects of sins, as if they never occurred.
  • Sayyi’āt (سَيِّئَات): Minor sins and shortcomings — the lesser wrongdoings that a person may fall into.
  • Mudkhalan Karīmā (مُدْخَلًا كَرِيمًا): A noble and honorable entrance — referring to Paradise, a place of honor, generosity, and everlasting bliss.

The Interpretation:

O believers, Allah — in His infinite mercy and wisdom — gives you a profound and comforting promise. If you sincerely strive to avoid the major sins — those grave offenses that He has forbidden and warned against, such as associating partners with Him (shirk), being undutiful to parents, taking a life without right, consuming usury (riba), and other serious transgressions — then Allah, out of His grace, will overlook and erase your minor sins and shortcomings. He will not hold you to account for every small slip, but rather, He will purify you and admit you into Paradise, a place of immense honor and generosity, where you will dwell in eternal happiness and closeness to your Lord.

This verse is a beautiful reminder that Allah does not demand perfection from His servants; rather, He calls them to avoid the greatest evils and to repent from the lesser ones. It is a door of hope — no matter how many small mistakes you make, the path to Paradise remains open for those who guard themselves against the major sins and turn back to Allah with sincerity. So hold fast to this promise, and let it motivate you to stay away from what Allah has prohibited, knowing that His mercy is vast and His reward is magnificent.

📜 Verse 29-33 — An-Nisa

O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.
And whoever does that in aggression and injustice - then We will drive him into a Fire. And that, for Allah, is [always] easy.
If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sins and admit you to a noble entrance [into Paradise].
And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you exceed others. For men is a share of what they have earned, and for women is a share of what they have earned. And ask Allah of his bounty. Indeed Allah is ever, of all things, Knowing.
And for all, We have made heirs to what is left by parents and relatives. And to those whom your oaths have bound [to you] - give them their share. Indeed Allah is ever, over all things, a Witness.
