Word Meanings:

  • لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ (to the judgment of your Lord): His divine decree and His religious command.
  • بِأَعْيُنِنَا (under Our Eyes): Under Our sight, protection, and care.
  • سَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ (glorify with the praise of your Lord): Declare His perfection and praise Him, saying "Subhan Allah wa bihamdih" (Glory be to Allah and with His praise).
  • حِينَ تَقُومُ (when you rise): When you rise from your sleep, and also when you stand for prayer.

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger of Allah, be patient with the decree of your Lord and with His command—patient in conveying the message, patient in enduring the harm of your people, and patient in awaiting His victory. Do not let your heart be constrained by their rejection, for you are under Our Eyes: We see you, We watch over you, and We protect you from every evil. Nothing they do escapes Us, and We will surely defend you and grant you triumph.

And when you rise from your sleep, and when you stand for prayer, glorify your Lord with His praise—declare His perfection, thank Him for His blessings, and worship Him sincerely. This glorification is a source of strength for you, a means of drawing closer to Him, and a shield against all that troubles you.

This verse affirms the attribute of "eyes" for Allah in a manner befitting His majesty—without likening Him to His creation and without questioning how. It is a matter agreed upon by the righteous predecessors, and the plural form here indicates grandeur and perfection.

A Call to the Reader:

Dear believer, reflect on this divine care: the Creator of the heavens and the earth tells His beloved Prophet that he is under His watchful Eyes. What greater comfort can a servant find than knowing that Allah sees him, hears him, and protects him? If this was the consolation given to the Prophet in the face of hardship, then you too, whenever trials weigh heavily upon you, should remember that you are never alone. Allah sees your struggle, knows your pain, and will never abandon you.

Make glorification your companion at every rising and every prayer. Let "Subhan Allah wa bihamdih" be the light of your mornings and the peace of your nights. For in patience lies victory, and in remembrance lies tranquility. So be patient, for the help of Allah is near, and your Lord is watching over you with love and care.

47وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا عَذَابًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
And indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know.

And in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars.
