Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- آلَاء (Ālā'): The countless blessings, favors, and bounties of Allah.
- رَبِّكُمَا (Rabbikumā): Your Lord — addressed to both mankind and jinn.
- تُكَذِّبَانِ (Tukadhdhibān): You both deny or reject.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse is a powerful rhetorical question addressed to both humans and jinn, the two creations endowed with intellect and free will. Allah asks: "So which of the blessings of your Lord do you both deny?" The repetition of this verse throughout Surah Ar-Rahman serves as a profound reminder that no matter how many favors Allah bestows upon us — from the creation of the heavens and the earth, to the sun and the moon, to the provision of food, water, and countless other mercies — we have no valid reason to reject any of them.
The question is not seeking an answer, but rather it is a rebuke and an awakening. It challenges us to reflect: Can you point to even a single blessing that you truly deserve or that you created for yourself? Every breath you take, every heartbeat, every moment of peace and security — all are gifts from your Lord. Even the ability to see, hear, and think is a mercy that you did not earn. So how could you deny any of these blessings? How could you use them in disobedience to the One who granted them?
This verse also carries a beautiful call to gratitude. When you recognize that every good thing in your life comes from Allah, your heart naturally fills with love and thankfulness. The more you count His blessings, the more you realize they are countless — and the more you submit to Him in worship and obedience. The verse gently but firmly invites both humans and jinn to acknowledge their Lord's generosity and to respond with faith, gratitude, and righteous action.
Let this verse be a mirror for your soul: whenever you are tempted to complain or to deny Allah's favors, remember this question — "Which of your Lord's blessings can you truly deny?" The answer is none. So let your tongue be busy with praise, your heart with gratitude, and your limbs with obedience to the Most Merciful, the Most Generous.
