Surah Ar-Rahman — Verse 29

The angels ask Him for mercy and forgiveness, the believers ask Him for guidance and provision, and even the disbelievers, whether they acknowledge it or not, are in a state of need and reliance upon Him. No one is self-sufficient; no one can do without His grace for even the blink of an eye.

Then comes the profound statement: "Every day He is in a matter." This means that Allah, in His infinite power and wisdom, is constantly at work. He exalts some and humiliates others; He gives to whom He wills and withholds from whom He wills; He heals the sick, enriches the poor, forgives the sinner, and answers the supplicant. He brings life and causes death; He changes the seasons, turns the tides, and manages the affairs of all creation without any fatigue or weariness. Not a single moment passes without His divine action, and His management never ceases.

This verse is a direct call to the heart of every human being: if you are in need — and you always are — then turn to the One who is always managing affairs and always ready to respond. He is not like the created kings who sleep, grow tired, or become distracted. He is the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining, who is engaged in the affairs of His creation every single moment.

Dear reader, reflect on this: the One who manages the entire universe — the stars, the oceans, the winds, and the hearts of all beings — is the same One who hears your whisper and knows your silent need. He is never too busy for you. He is never distracted by the billions of prayers ascending to Him. In fact, He delights in your asking, and He has promised to respond.

So, raise your hands to Him with confidence. Ask Him for your greatest and smallest needs. Know that He is always in the affair of answering, giving, and caring. This is the beauty of Islam: a direct connection to the Lord of the worlds, who is closer to you than your own jugular vein, and who is constantly at work for your benefit. Never despair of His mercy, and never feel shy to ask Him — for He loves the one who asks, and He is always in the matter of granting.
