Word Meanings:

  • Furush (فُرُشٍ): Plural of *firash*, meaning beds or couches prepared for reclining.
  • Bata’inuha (بَطَائِنُهَا): The inner linings of those beds.
  • Istabraq (إِسْتَبْرَقٍ): Thick, heavy brocade — a luxurious silk fabric with rich embroidery, the finest of its kind.
  • Jana (جَنَى): The ripe, ready-to-pick fruit.
  • Dan (دَانٍ): Near, close at hand, within easy reach.

Explanation of the Verse:

After describing the two gardens prepared for the righteous who feared standing before their Lord, Allah now paints a vivid picture of the bliss awaiting them inside. The dwellers of Paradise are shown reclining upon magnificent couches whose inner linings are made of the finest, thickest brocade — a fabric of unparalleled luxury and beauty. The outer coverings are even more splendid, woven from the softest silk, as mentioned in other verses. This imagery conveys a scene of complete rest, honor, and comfort, where every detail has been perfected for their enjoyment.

And what makes this scene even more delightful is that the fruits of both gardens — every kind of delicious, ripe produce — hang so close that they can be plucked effortlessly by anyone, whether standing, sitting, or lying down. There is no need to rise, no effort to exert, no distance to cover. The bounty is simply there, within arm’s reach, ready to be enjoyed at any moment.

This verse invites us to reflect on the generosity of Allah, who does not merely give His servants what they need, but showers them with what their hearts could never fully imagine. He has prepared for His beloved servants a life of absolute ease and pleasure, free from any toil or hardship. The very act of reclining on such beds and reaching out for fruit that is *dan* — near and accessible — speaks of a peace that knows no anxiety, a satisfaction that knows no end.

Dear reader, this is not a distant fantasy. This is the promise of the Most Merciful, the One who never breaks His word. If we truly fear Him in this world — by obeying His commands, avoiding what He forbade, and striving to please Him — then these gardens, these couches, and this near fruit are not just dreams; they are our guaranteed reality. Let this verse awaken in your heart a longing for Paradise, and let that longing translate into action. For the One who created such beauty for His servants is calling you to be among them. Will you answer?
