📖 English Meaning
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
📜

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Ālā’ (آلاء): The countless blessings, favors, and bounties of Allah.
  • Tukadhdhibān (تُكَذِّبَان): You both deny or reject (addressed to two — here referring to mankind and jinn).

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse is a recurring refrain in Surah Ar-Rahman, addressed directly to both humans and jinn. Allah asks: "So which of the blessings of your Lord do you both deny?" It is a rhetorical question that strikes at the heart of human and jinn accountability. The blessings of Allah are innumerable — from the creation of the heavens and the earth, to the sun and moon, to the very breath in your lungs, to the guidance of the Quran itself. Yet, despite all this, how could anyone deny even one of these favors? The question is not seeking an answer; it is a profound rebuke and a call to reflection. It reminds every soul that ingratitude and disbelief are utterly unjustifiable in the face of such overwhelming mercy and generosity.

Da‘wah Reflection:

Dear reader, pause and look around you. Every heartbeat, every ray of sunlight, every drop of rain, every morsel of food — all are gifts from your Lord. The fact that you are reading these words right now is a blessing in itself. So ask yourself: which of these blessings could you ever deny? The verse awakens the conscience to the reality that we are surrounded by divine favor at every moment. It invites you to respond not with denial, but with gratitude and submission. Say: "We believe in You, O Allah, and we thank You for all Your blessings. We do not deny any of them." This is the path of the grateful believer — a path that leads to peace in this life and eternal bliss in the Hereafter. Let this verse be a mirror for your soul: if you recognize the blessings, then let your tongue praise, your heart love, and your limbs obey the One who gave them all.
