📖 English Meaning
Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse is a gentle yet profound call from Allah to the believers — a loving nudge to awaken their hearts. Allah asks: "Has not the time come for those who believe that their hearts should become humbly submissive to the remembrance of Allah and to the truth that has been revealed?" It is a rhetorical question, meaning: Yes, the time has certainly come. The believers are being invited to soften their hearts, to let the Qur'an penetrate their souls, and to respond to Allah's words with reverence, humility, and obedience — not just with the tongue, but with a heart that is alive and present.

Allah then warns them not to become like the People of the Book — the Jews and Christians — who were given the Torah and the Gospel before them. A long period of time passed over them, and their hearts grew hard. They became attached to worldly matters, neglected the reminders of Allah, altered His words, and many of them turned away from His commands in disobedience. Their hardness of heart was not a sudden event; it was the result of years of neglect, procrastination, and distance from divine guidance.

This verse is a beautiful reminder that the heart is like a vessel — if it is filled with the remembrance of Allah, it softens and becomes receptive to goodness. But if it is left empty or filled with worldly distractions, it hardens over time, just as stone becomes harder with exposure to the elements. The believer is therefore urged to constantly refresh their faith, to regularly engage with the Qur'an, and to never let a long period pass without reconnecting with Allah.

A Call to the Heart:

Dear believer, ask yourself: When was the last time your heart trembled upon hearing the Qur'an? When was the last time you shed a tear out of love and fear of Allah? When was the last time you felt true humility in your prayer? This verse is a wake-up call — a beautiful invitation to return to the freshness of faith. Do not let your heart become like a stone. Keep it soft, keep it alive, and keep it connected to the One who created it. The Qur'an is not just a book to be recited; it is a living message that has the power to transform hearts — if only we let it. So open your heart to it today, and let the light of Allah's words illuminate your soul.

📜 Verse 14-18 — Al-Hadid

The hypocrites will call to the believers, "Were we not with you?" They will say, "Yes, but you afflicted yourselves and awaited [misfortune for us] and doubted, and wishful thinking deluded you until there came the command of Allah. And the Deceiver deceived you concerning Allah.
So today no ransom will be taken from you or from those who disbelieved. Your refuge is the Fire. It is most worthy of you, and wretched is the destination.
Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient.
Know that Allah gives life to the earth after its lifelessness. We have made clear to you the signs; perhaps you will understand.
Indeed, the men who practice charity and the women who practice charity and [they who] have loaned Allah a goodly loan - it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward.
