Word Meanings:

  • Al-Qahir (الْقَاهِرُ): The Subduer, the Dominant, the One who prevails over all things and all beings, to Whom everything submits.
  • Fawqa (فَوْقَ): Above — indicating His absolute supremacy and elevation over His creation, in a manner befitting His majesty.
  • Al-Hakim (الْحَكِيمُ): The All-Wise — the One who places everything in its proper position with perfect wisdom.
  • Al-Khabir (الْخَبِيرُ): The All-Aware — the One whose knowledge encompasses everything, the seen and the unseen, the hidden and the manifest.

Explanation of the Verse:

Allah, Glorified and Exalted, declares in this verse: "And He is the Subduer above His servants, and He is the All-Wise, the All-Aware."

This verse establishes the absolute sovereignty and dominance of Allah over all His creation. He is the One who has complete power and control over everything — no one can escape His authority, and no one can overcome His will. All necks bow to Him, and even the mightiest tyrants are humbled before His majesty. His "above-ness" (fawqiyyah) over His servants is a true and absolute elevation that befits His divine glory — not a physical location, but a supremacy of power, rank, and perfection. He is above all creation in His essence, His power, and His attributes.

Then Allah pairs this attribute of dominance with two other beautiful names: Al-Hakim (the All-Wise) and Al-Khabir (the All-Aware). He is All-Wise in His creation, His decree, and His legislation — everything He does is with perfect wisdom and purpose, even if we do not perceive it. And He is All-Aware — nothing escapes His knowledge, not even the thoughts that cross your mind or the secret intentions in your heart.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, reflect deeply on this verse. The One who is Qahir — the Subduer — is also Hakim and Khabir. This means His power is never unjust, His dominance is never tyrannical, and His control is always guided by perfect wisdom and complete awareness. When you know that the One above you is All-Wise and All-Aware, you find peace in His decree, because you trust that whatever He does is for your ultimate good.

This verse also carries a powerful call to purify your faith. When you know that Allah is the Subduer above all, why would you turn to anyone else for help, protection, or provision? The idols, the false gods, the powerful people, the worldly systems — all of them are beneath His dominion. They are His servants, just as you are. So direct your worship, your hope, and your fear to the One who truly deserves it.

And what a comfort this is for the believer! When you feel weak, oppressed, or overwhelmed by the challenges of life, remember that your Lord is Al-Qahir — nothing can overcome Him, and no one can stand against His will. The tyrants of this world, no matter how powerful they seem, are under His control. He can subdue them in an instant. So place your trust in Him, and know that His wisdom and His awareness are always with you — He sees your struggles, He knows your heart, and He will never abandon those who sincerely turn to Him.

📜 Verse 16-20 — Al-An'am

He from whom it is averted that Day - [Allah] has granted him mercy. And that is the clear attainment.
And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him. And if He touches you with good - then He is over all things competent.
And He is the subjugator over His servants. And He is the Wise, the Acquainted [with all].
Say, "What thing is greatest in testimony?" Say, "Allah is witness between me and you. And this Qur'an was revealed to me that I may warn you thereby and whomever it reaches. Do you [truly] testify that with Allah there are other deities?" Say, "I will not testify [with you]." Say, "Indeed, He is but one God, and indeed, I am free of what you associate [with Him]."
Those to whom We have given the Scripture recognize it as they recognize their [own] sons. Those who will lose themselves [in the Hereafter] do not believe.
