Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger, when the disbelievers of Makkah demanded that you produce a witness to prove your truthfulness, Allah instructed you to respond to them with a question that silences their arrogance: "What thing is greatest in testimony?" The answer is self-evident — there is nothing greater than Allah Himself. So say to them: "Allah is the Witness between me and you." He is the One who knows perfectly what I have brought to you and what you are saying against me. His testimony is the ultimate proof, for He sees all and nothing escapes His knowledge.
Then Allah reminds them of the greatest sign of His truthfulness: "And this Qur'an has been revealed to me so that I may warn you thereby and whoever it reaches." This Qur'an is not a human invention; it is the very word of Allah, revealed to the Prophet ﷺ as a mercy and a warning. It is addressed to the people of Makkah first, and then to every human being and jinn until the Day of Judgment — whoever hears this Qur'an, in any language or time, carries the responsibility to reflect upon it and respond to its call. It is a living proof that the Prophet ﷺ is truthful, for no human could produce such a book, and no one can bring a chapter like it.
Allah then rebukes them gently but firmly: "Do you really testify that with Allah there are other gods?" They knew in their hearts that this was false, yet they claimed it out of stubbornness. So Allah commands His Prophet ﷺ: "Say: I do not testify to what you say." I bear no witness to falsehood, and I will never affirm your shirk. "Say: He is only One God" — the only deity worthy of worship, without partner or equal. "And indeed, I am free of what you associate with Him." I dissociate myself completely from your idols, your false beliefs, and your polytheism.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: the greatest testimony in existence is Allah's own witness. When you align your life with His revelation, you stand on the firmest ground. And just as the Prophet ﷺ declared his innocence from shirk, every Muslim must declare the same — loving what Allah loves, and distancing from what He hates, with clarity and courage.
Beloved reader, this Qur'an has reached you today as well. It is your personal address from your Lord. Do not let it pass by without reflection. Let it be the light that guides your heart, the warning that awakens your soul, and the mercy that brings you closer to your Creator. For the One who witnessed the truth of His Messenger is the same One who witnesses your every step — and He has sent you this Book so that you may be among those who are saved, not among those who are warned and turn away.
